Usyk In The 1950's?

Why should any active fighter have a few HOFers on their resume? How many HOFers did Ali have on his resume at the time he fought them? Or, since this is the topic of debate, Marciano? Not guys who got inducted long after he fought them, but who were in the HOF during his reign.

 

It might be if you didn't take into account the spectacular speed and size differential at play here. Nistor not even tenth of the fighter Marciano was? And you want to accuse me of making absurd statements. Check your own self.

 

Can’t be in the hall when you’re active but it’s reasonable to say AJ has a solid chance at the hall. It’s reasonable to say Fury and Wilder have a chance at getting in. Maybe fight other belt holders or past ones like Ruiz and Whyte. Usyk at the money reminds me of Tunneys career so far. And I have the same problem with people thinking Tunney is a top ten Hw ever. All I’m saying is he needs to prove himself some more before I say he can beat anyone who ever lives lol. I don’t know why this is so hard for some of you to get. I’m not insulting the man he’s a great fighter. But I wouldn’t say any fighter ever would clear out a whole decade worth of fighters if he met them all. It’s not likely and it’s unreasonable to believe so.

 

Obviously know very little of Marciano to even compare the two. Should maybe humble yourself some more and do some research.

 

OK, so Usyk's beaten one potential future HOFer. Great. Let's wait a while. I'm sure Usyk isn't going to duck anyone in his pursuit if greatness. I'd give him an awesome chance of beating almost anyone not named Fury in the next couple years. I'd give him a chance to beat Fury himself as well, who clearly doesn't fancy the task.

 

I know plenty about Marciano. Do you know anything about Nistor? Enough to say he wasn't even a tenth of the fighter the Rock was?

Take your own advice and stop denigrating professional fighters with ridiculous comments like the above.

Are there more Nistor fights I’m unaware of because that one isn’t so flattering? Mans stance was completely different. Was exhausted after a few rounds. Terrible defense in comparison to Marciano. They aren’t comparable in any sense other then pressure fighter. The skill set is Night and day.

 

Nistor mauling Clemente Russo, who beat Wilder get the silver medal in the 2008 Olympics. Wilder, let me remind you, was someone you said might make the HOF, so clearly not a bad result.

I don’t think well of Wilder but I think we’ll of AJ. I don’t think they’re comparable in ability and skill (Marciano and Nistor). Marciano is the far and away better fighter. If a tenth makes you uncomfortable maybe that was to much of an exaggeration but Marciano is several classes above the man. Thanks for the clips will check them out

 

I never said they were comparable in skill. I said he's the nearest HW we've got to Marciano today. Obviously Marciano was way more effective with his head movement (Nistor used to be good in this category, now he's become a bit of a punchbag) and way more proven.

Check out Nistor's fight with Makhmudov. He loses but gives Makhmudov one of his toughest fights ever. And if you don't know who Makhmudov is, well, watch this space.

 

The problem with Usyk in the 1950s is as a cruiserweight he would be far too small and weaker than the bigger guys in that division like Bob Baker, Nino Valdes, John Holman, James J Parker, Cleavland Williams, Mike Dejohn and Young Jack Johnson.

But since he was nearly as big as Larry Holmes when he challenged AJ, we now know Usyk would physically be able to handle the bigger guys in the division like Archie Moore and Bob Satterfield always could.

 

Usyk wouldn't be fighting as a cruiserweight in the 50's. His in ring weights at cruiser were around 207-208 and without having to make any weight would have likely been around 210-212 or something.

He wasn't nearly as big as Holmes. Holmes peak weight was around 212 and sometimes lower Usyk weighed 220 odd against AJ and was just as tall as Holmes with a bit less reach. They are close to a wash i reckon if Usyk wasn't adding a little weight to fight such big guys.

It's rather safe to assume Usyk could handle the big guys of that day as they weren't exactly a murders row of heavyweights were they. Usyk would be a conservative 20 odd pounds heavier than Moore and a bit more over Satterfield who was oft beaten at his very best.

Guys like Valdes and Williams are of a similar size to Usyk.

I really don't think the Usyk win has shown guys like Archie Moore and co could make careers in the modern heavyweight division. It's more that guys like Liston, Foreman, Ali, Holmes and co would compete and compete comfortably. Some might even say they would expose some of these giants.

that being said Archie beat plenty of shws over his career. Some of them very badly. I think if we had clear HD video of these things it would be easier for people to accept. Moore’s weight at HW fluctuated drastically. Was as high as 205 to fighting HWs below 175. But at his best the 186-195 range

 

I know he was but i was also trying to balance it out a bit and be realistic about his actual size. He wouldn't have been fighting as a cruiser in the division. He actually would have been bigger than some of the guys chok has named. His regular 50/60's weight would be higher than 208 and he's 6'3. He would have been considered a big man right in the thick of choks list.
