I personally disagree with the above, but I will say, contrary to my personal opinion, that I showed my kids The Three Stooges... Slapstick humor they should find hilarious- I fully expected them to go crazy and howl with laughter... They couldnt even make it through one episode because it was "boring" and "stupid"... "There isnt even any color". So there is something to it. I think it takes a discerning eye, genuine interest and solid understanding of boxing to appreciate and/or evaluate these vintage films.

The first Jupiter would be completely outclassed by the modern Jupiter. You can tell just by looking at the images.
The first Jupiter would be giving up at least 79 moons and lord knows how many colors. Complete mismatch.
Yeah, the apologists for the pre-1915 fighters will make it seem as if, because of the poor film quality, you just cant see all these nuances and punches happening, and that you've missed something.
My god you're insufferable. You're the smuggest poster in this forum and for the life of me I can't figure out why. Your posts seldom add any value to these threads or reveal any actual knowledge about or understanding of the sport of boxing. Nobody here cares about your opinions or your approval, which is why people seldom bother responding to your interrogations and attacks (if you haven't noticed). And I think it's pretty churlish to constantly attack Pat M with language like that, considering he's never been disrespectful to you. Cheers!
It's pretty pointless to critique Johnson for sometimes carrying opponents around the ring, while talking, and not throwing, because he was never doing it to win. It was a way of showing off that he was so superior that he could play around with his opponent and not really try. Plus he wanted the fight to be longer to make more money from the film of it.
I've handed you your ass on a silver platter with all the trimmings every single time we've clashed, which is actually no kind of boast as you frequently make the most fundamental logical errors possible. (eg. shifting burden of proof, failing to understand basic induction, confusing -or pretending to confuse- obvious generalizations for rigid categorical claims...) I'm no more smug than at least half the people here (I'd say I'm almost exactly average) and and I'm certainly not smug to everyone, nor even everyone I disagree with, so it seems your objection is not to the measure of my smugness but its direction. I made no especial claim to anyone's approval, but I see you've conscripted a phantom army of "no one" to speak on your behalf. As for my alleged lack of knowledge, there are people here who know far more than I and from whom I frequently learn. You most definitely are not one of them.
Oh, one other thing. I believe I've addressed Pat M Grand total of four times, and while I haven't exactly been nice, each single time was in response to a hollow, dismissive assertion of the kind that really sets my teeth on edge. For all I know he's a nice guy but that **** drives me up a wall.
I can't take credit for not being disrespectful to that person. When I read a few posts by someone and they obviously don't know anything about boxing I ignore what they write. I seldom, if ever respond to their posts because their opinions concerning boxing don't interest me.
Another completely worthless post. You're ridiculous but I find your complete lack of self-awareness highly amusing. "Handed me my ass on a silver platter with all the trimmings every single time we've clashed"? That's never happened once. If anything, the opposite is true. Like I've already said, you greatly overestimate yourself. But more importantly, who cares?? Maybe you're confused and you think this forum is some kind of college debate tournament? We're all wrong and misinformed at times and those of us with any humility and open-mindedness learn from our exchanges. You seem to completely lack those qualities though. You bring nothing to the table and add nothing to these threads. Do you think that people here care about what you have to say because you read a lot and probably have an above average IQ?? And do you think that makes you unique or special? You never seem to have anything substantive to say about boxing--other than the type of generic ATG-heavyweight fodder that serves as low-hanging fruit for forums like this. I'm done wasting time with this pointless discussion. Have a good weekend. PS -- You accusing me of burden-shifting is rich beyond measure. That's a major part of your annoying little schtick.
*chuckle* You once demanded that I demonstrate the nonexistence of nutrition research applicable to athletic performance, to which I rightly replied I that need not do this any more than demonstrate the nonexistence of the Cuban space program. We have very different ideas about what evidence is, and what kind of claims require it, and my speculations are presented as just that, with unmistakable emphasis on my uncertainty and indeed frequent mentions of the limitations of my boxing knowledge. If this seems to you "never" to happen, I guess we just inhabit parallel universes.
I think we do inhabit parallel universes. That's a false description of our earlier disagreement--the one that began when you made the ridiculously pompous (and baseless) claim that "There is no "modern training" and there most definitely is no "modern nutrition"." But I've already helped derail this thread enough and so I’m going to decline to continue this back and forth. My apologies to the OP and anyone else reading this.
