Usyk won 5 championship fights in HW, Tyson 12. Tyson defeated 5 current world champions, Usyk 2, Usyk had a close fight with the current linear champion, Tyson destroyed him, Usyk defeated 1 Olympic champion, Tyson outclassed 3 Olympic champions, Tyson defended the unified title 6 times, Usyk gave up the title and is not defending it yet the rest. Tyson outclassed his rivals, Usyk wins after close or controversial fights... It's not close... Usyk won the most important fights for 5 years - 7 heavyweight fights, Tyson also won the most important fights for 5 years - 37 fights. Tyson, my dear friend.
On the real though how do you think those top 5 would match up with Fury, Joshua and Dubois. Just curious
does not compare H2H. Perhaps the difference in physical conditions is too great, but I think Tucker, Berbick and Smith would fit in this era... Can you imagine a 37-year-old wrestler who has never boxed, has a 2-year break from competing due to an injury and then comes out and Larry Holmes, Tucker, Berbick, Bruno, Ruddock, Williams, Stewart have to fight him for a verdict to get SD?? This is not a golden era
For a Luke Partridge fan to say Usyk is sitting on his belts, not taking on challenges & slowing the entire division down is priceless!
Razor ruddock who he didn't mention beats 2 of them imo and Bruno even has a shot. The Heavyweights now are less skilled, usyk is the exception
Say what you want about Usyk's resume but there is no heavyweight alive or dead that could've done what he did.
Lot of rubbish, here. First of all, the current world champions Tyson beat were not long-term titlists in the same way as Fury and Joshua. They were fly-by-night titlists, and some of those defenses were dreadful 80s drug-addicts and washed-up fighters. Also, not sure if you noticed, but Tyson has a prime loss to a fringe-contender. Usyk gave up a belt because he is a FOUR gelt champ, and it becomes impossible to hold them together. Tyson has a place as an ATG...so does Usyk. They took different paths, and yes, Tyson has more quantity. But the really impressive wins aren't there. And don't even try to play 38 year old Holmes or semi-retired Spinks.
Fury doesn't even have a better resume than Spinks and the Ngannou fight happened right before Usyk. I never have and never will rate peak aj higher than a 38 year old Larry Holmes
Spinks was on his way out do to chronic pain in his knees, and by the way, was a carreer LHW. Holmes had lost to that Spinks. They were not great opponents in context. And by the way, don't even play the Mercer card, because Mercer is a guy who loses to Jesse Ferguson.
If someone beats Usyk this year, won't they be able to mention him in their CV because Usyk is 38 years old? like Holmes when he fought Tyson? or maybe you hope that Usyk will fight like Holmes until he is 52? Why was Spinks semi-retired? How old was Wlad when he fought Joshua? how old was he? Do you think Tyson stayed away from drugs and was constantly hungry for boxing, unlike those he fought against, and that's why he was so successful?
Calls of spinks being shot are nonesense, he still had enough to dominate Cooney with the hindered movement if it were that bad. The fact that Tyson got rid of him in seconds should say more about Tyson than it does Spinks. Fury was older, got a controversial decision against a 37 year old UFC fighter on his debut, and is considered by most (including me) to have been past his prime ever since his weight was violently fluctuating during his layoff when he was doing nothing but booze. The fact is Fury has had how many bad performances despite having a thin resume ? Now imagine if he fought top guys back to back like Parker or Kabayel. Undefeated sure but with context obviously actively avoiding other top contenders and had a draw with Wilder, the guy with almost 0 boxing fundamentals and got dropped twice. joshua should be self explanatory, he is not better than Spinks with context. I don't consider Fury better than old Holmes, but Tysons resume is certainly thicker regardless
He hadn't fought in a year and had considered retirement due to bad knees. He was shot. It's not a matter of age, its a matter of his body was in terrible shape. But, they offered him a truckload of money. Spinks was an absolutely diminutive heavy by late eighties standards.
I love Usyk but fight mileage has far more impact on fighter performance than age, and Usyk has way less mileage than past greats.
