You'll all see how good he's once he steps up and fights someone like Huck, Lebedev etc. And people need to get over this age obsession. Usyk is two years younger than Beterbiev for god sake
he is one of those rare talents in boxing, I hope he has his head screwed on straight and won't start slacking once he's won a couple of titles, because it would be a tremendous waste Usyk showed Masternak how to deal with a guy of Muller's calibre quickly and without playing around, maybe next time Masternak has his opponent on the canvas, he'll go for the kill and not get robbed by hometown judges
He doesn't get hit too much, and certainly doesn't have "bad defense". He did get hit a few times by Muller, who showed really good timing with his counter-punches (and can actually crack pretty hard; maybe not Kudryashov hard, but hard enough that Usyk no-selling his shots indicates that Usyk has a very solid chin for a final line of defense on the rare occasion that his quickness and ring awareness fail him) but that is a far cry from "bad defense".
Ultra talented. How can a cruiserweight move with that much agility... I thought Haye was fast. But Usyk is leaps and bounds above him. He needs to move up to heavyweight
Muller is a pudgy runt who shouldn't even be fighting at cruiser. He has 13 stoppages in 25 fights, and has never stopped anyone with a pulse; he's not a puncher at CW. Usyk is doing what he's supposed to against these overmatched opponents, but that's about it. Can we at least see him against someone with some athleticism before we compare him to Ali?
I love Usyk, have supported him long before he turned pro. He's no Ali, but he's an amazing fighter and will be P4P.
If Usky was 'absolutely stunning, incredible' it wouldn't have taken him over two years to beat 8 bottom feeders. It will likely be over 6 months away before he faces the next stool pigeon. The greats used beat these guys every month.
Talk about a high standard being set for these guys he's had 8 matches, guys like Benavidez and Gary Russell Jr. and a lot other American or Mexican amateur prospects have had 20 to 25 matches before they step up, just because Lomachenko or Beterbiev have taken that route its doesn't automatically mean everyone from Eastern Europe has to do the same thing, although Usyk does have a Gold Medal and he should be but its not the end of the world if he has 8-12 warm up matches to find himself as a pro. Sure he's good enough to take on the top guys at Cruiser already but what's the rush Pulev got his shot at Wlad at 34, Usyk still has six years before he reaches that age.
There's no point in wasting time fighting guys who are way below your level, he's 28, it'd serve him better (legacy wise) to start moving up now as he's ready for that step up. Don't have to jump in with Drozd or Lebedev but some second tier top level opponent would be good.
He should fight Bellew, Larghetti, Askin, McKenzie or even an Arslan next and then make his way up to Diablo, Shumenov or Ramirez.
