Agreed. I don't understand how others can fail to appreciate his skill, particularly his footwork and movement. He throws some really lovely well timed left counters too.

    Night, Cafe. :good

    That exchange is utter madness.

He's always been underrated by most IMO (in part due to the hate for fighting RJJ and Toney) but i do think his footwork has improved noticeably under Tszyu and now Roach the last couple years, not that it was terrible before.

He used to be more of a stalking counter puncher for the most part ala Tszyu mid-late career and some boxer-puncher but last couple years he's improved his lateral movement, pivots, ability to take small steps and change the angle just enough to put his opponent out of position etc.

Along with that his defense has definitely improved largely complimented by his footwork. The way he can maintain the distance and stay in punching range but still remain elusive by circling his opponent getting off then pivoting around and out or rolling under incoming counters then doing the same and be in position to punch again, much sneakier than given credit for.

Now he's also good whether on the front foot, backfoot, circling or just boxing at range and is just a pretty complete package.

At 35 (granted he had a 4 year career break) his athleticism and speed may be starting to diminish slightly but he never relied on it to begin with, more his timing, but his improvements along with power should see him age well and maintain this level for a few more years. Long enough to face the upcoming guys and try to repel their charge. Old lion, young lion.

Lebedev? The Swan? It's just the root word for his last name. He's definitely boxing's Oksana Bayul . Not sure which Swan is more graceful, you decide.

My Grandmother loved figure skating so i used to watch it with her when i was young. Bayul was the first Ukrainian athlete to win a Gold medal at the Olympics for Ukraine after independence. One of my earliest memories is how happy she was when Oksana won.

That's a good sweet memory to have attached to it, I always used to love watching figure skating and gymnastics and rooted for the Russians and Ukrainians when I was a kid, because my father's parents had both died right after the war and I never knew my grandparents and he was an only child and he was young when they died, so me being born and raised in the US with a very American mother it was the only thing I could identify here with my Slavic side other than him. Well that and bad guys in 80's action movies.

Yeah he's pretty good, I've been meaning to do a thread on him for about 6 months, but I can't think of a nickname for him. I have writer's block every time I try to do one on him. This is his match against Herelius that Serge mentioned its only two rounds and its not that much of a showcase for his skills but thread I've been meaning to do would have this match on top due to the great ending where Kucher knocks Herelius right out of the ring.

I hope MVC didn't create this thread to make it look like he liked Eastern European fighters JUST so he could bash other Eastern European fighters :think

He better keep freaking out about this Usyk fella or I am going to call him out on it and there will be hell to pay :bbb

You know I loved seeing Usyk. I can't say the same about Dmitry Kudryashov.

Besides his crazy power he's a very very average boxer.
