Not at all. It makes perfect sense for him to call out Bellew, as hes small, its a good fight, and easy path to Joshua. Not faulting him, just highlighting that he doesnt have the power to compete with the big boys, and as he puts on the weight, his best assets wont be as good as they were at cruiserweight. Watch his fight with Breidis, do you honestly think any 240+ heavyweight is going to be worried about mixing it up with Usyk?
Well that's literally the only other name in the conversation, yeah. Usyk is locked in the top 2 at CW and would be my pick for #1.
Usyk decided to trade with Breidis (who sparked SHW Charr yet couldn't put a dent in him) and jab with hard bombing Gassiev - he's versatile more than you can imagine. Could Gas cut him down? I expected him so, but he couldn't even get past the jab, cause even tho Usyk is lacking in KO power (yes, a concern), it's head snapping enough to keep such huge punchers honest. Pulev? Breazale? Povetkin? Musclefat Miller? Kownacki? Parker? These fellas to get around Usyk's much faster hands, much lighter feet, much busier style, excellent beard and double ring IQ? Who are we kidding pal? Ortiz is cagey and hard hitting enough fo sho, but old and selective as hell to actually be the favorite. Jury's still out on New Fury, but the power is not there yet, and simply we know too little after 1 fight. Wilder is not even a super heavy, so he doesn't count among them, so then again, which 240lbs+ fatso/unnecessarily muscled up fella would you favor to actually come out victorious vs. P4P top5 Usyk other than AJ? There is none mate.
Naaa. Im more interested in Usyk vs Breidis 2. I think Breidis was unlucky not get the nod in the 1st and takes him 2nd time around.
Well Breidis-Usyk was close. It was a close fight. In Breidis's back garden he dropped a close decision. Probably about right. I'd like to see a rematch too, but Breidis didn't help himself on that front last night. No idea what he was up to there. It was not a good fight against a pretty average competitor. I think probably Breidis blew it last night, though we'll see. However, Usyk was brilliant against Huck. He was brilliant against Glowacki. And he was absolutely superb against Gassiev, I mean that was an absurdly good performance, brilliant. So anyone fixating on the Breidis fight, I have to ask - why? And it's because, at the highest level, it's his only questionable performance. And he still won, despite being very inexperienced, in his opponent's hometown. So I think as far as Breidis goes, it's worth calming down a little bit.
Usyk decided to trade with Breidis? Lol, pull my other leg. Theres a big difference between just deciding to do something and being forced. Breidis knew Usyk has no power and walked straight through him, Usyk was forced to trade to fight for his life and keep Breidis at bay. And yes, Breidis is a slow plodder, and was still able to take half the rounds against your invincible magician and toss him around like a rag doll. If a 200 pound Breidis, who should be getting a rematch by all rights, can do that Usyk, dont hold your breathe for Usyk to fight any of the above fore mentioned. The likes of Bellew, and the feather fisted Charr are about as high as Usyk will go before getting a heavyweight title shot.
Fantastic amateur pedigree. Unified cruiserweight division by his 15th pro fight. Has handled super-heavies with ease under pro rules. Large frame and could probably carry 220 without compromising speed, movement and stamina, which is more than big enough to compete at heavyweight. If that is “hype” and you can’t get excited about Usyk you’re really watching the wrong sport. It may turn out that he doesn’t quite hit hard enough to keep 240+ guys off for 12 rounds, but every fighter has question marks hanging over them. For now Usyk deserves the accolades he is getting, and it’s right to build him up as a potential nemesis for Wilder/Joshua down the line.
Ever considered ur overrating power in Sweet Science? Can you explain how Floyd survived 10-20lbs heavier dudes on fight night? Have you not seen smaller technicians dominate bigger, harder hitting fighters? Did you miss that Muhammad Ali had more fights below 200lbs than Usyk? Hello? Not only Usyk has significant advantage in stamina and output, plus a battle tested beard vs. Breidis and Gassiev (R4), he has so much speed in reserve vs. these big muscled up, fatty types, he can go 225lbs, sit down on them punches and still look like fast motion video. He made Gassiev look like a slow plodding fatso and beat the puncher out of him, you really think these slow motion guys will Chris Byrd him around?
The reason i mention Breidis, is because Breidis is a snapshot of what Usyk will be like competing at heavyweight, except against much bigger and stronger opposition. If Breidis can walk straight through Usyks best shots, and almost win, the idea that Usyk is going to clean out heavyweight is laughable. He should give Breidis a rematch after Bellew, its still an interesting fight.
I don't think that's true at all. Why wouldn't he look like he did against Gassiev? Are the heavyweights you're thinking of much faster than Gassiev? Gassiev was literally stumbling as Usyk moved around him and hit him? Literally stumbling around the shop. Now Breidis has the speed and balance to do a little better against an Usyk who was more static. So my questions are 1) Who are the heavies with faster feet than Breidis? 2) Why will Usyk box against heavies more like he did against Breidis than he did against Gassiev?
