Had Tyson Fury, Anthony Joshua and Michael Hunter all seriously hurt and couldn't get them out of there
Usyk was never really built for heavyweight. He's a natural cruiserweight. He's not like Evander who, with a little outside help, was able to put on muscle mass that suited his frame. Usyk's never been a guy who was especially gifted with power. Although, he's a sharp and extremely accurate puncher who can hurt people after mentally and physically breaking them down. That's what Usyk does. He exhausts people mentally with constant feints, angles, lead hand fighting, level changes and in an out movement. All while he continuously peppers and pierces his opponent with shots. That approach will utterly demoralize opponents, but sometimes it doesn't lend itself well to finishes because it forces opponents into a survival mentality. Also, didn't they cut off ten seconds in the first Joshua fight to try to save him from a knockout? In both the first Joshua and Fury fights, Usyk hurt them right near the end of the round, too. He didn't have a lot of time to work. Just saying.
He opened up on fury pretty good when he had him virtually knocked out in R nine He really went after the massive (70:lb heavier and 6inches taller) Fury, and had Fury virtually out, had he not fell into the ropes
If the ref didn’t stop Usyk, he would have knocked out Fury. He only hurt AJ near the end of the 1st fight and the bell rang 12 seconds early. You can’t be reckless against much bigger men. They can knock people out with one punch.
Er. the ref saved Belly from a KO defeat The ref in the Hunter fight was very generous to Hunter because an awful lot of refs if not most would've waved this off. Hunter is super durable too and has never been dropped or stopped sans the count the ref gave him in this round when he deemed the ropes prevented him from going down This content is protected And he had AJ in big trouble in the dying seconds of round 12. Had he started a bit earlier he likely would've stopped him This content is protected
As someone who unabashedly is a finisher, an early finisher, someone who finishes way too early, for most people's tastes, I'm not even sure how much of a problem this really is. I WISH I had these problems.
To be fair Usyk did pretty much TKO Fury he pummelled Fury and had him stumbling all over the ring for almost 30 seconds in most cases that would be deemed a stoppage. If you look at Ruddock vs Tyson 1 stoppage for example that was not even close to Usyk vs Fury but that was still stopped. When Usyk had Joshua in trouble it was right at the end of the fight and he didn't have enough time to finish Joshua. Hunter has never been stopped in his career. I don't think it's a negative not being able to stop two huge Super Heavyweight who had huge weight advantages, and even then Usyk still had both in trouble in Fury's case huge trouble in which most people consider was virtually a TKO.
Why comment on his fights when you haven't even watched them? He's not a finisher because he doesn't even throw with any intentions until he has he fight thoroughly won on points, with Fury as the only exception He's not a finisher because it isn't his style. By the way, if you watched the fights, you would know that Joshua was saved by the timekeeper and Fury by the ref. Hunter was similar--the ref gave him a standing 8 when he had turned his back almost compeltely and should have been stopped.
Yeah he's more of an endurance athlete by the looks of it. I think that was obvious at cruiser too. The fact he is so accurate and connects so much means you'd expect a lot more clean KO's if he had big power for the division. He would finish more like Kovalev if that was the case. Kovalev wasn't a brawler and boxed well, didn't throw haymakers, but when he landed clean people didn't survive long usually. That's why I think Usyk needs to get out of HW soon because depending on winning on points all the time puts you at risk against these huge HWs. And it might catch up with him. Usyk has a good chin but there are punchers that could still turn the fight on him if they survive long enough.
Just look at all the stoppages in 5 vs 5 card, and you know that Usyk was clearly robbed of the TKO. Hell Wilder was in better condition to go after he gets up from the KD against Zhang, then Fury was when referee counted him. Fury wasn't ready to go, and the ref shouldn't have allowed him to continue, even though the bell was going to come, as this ain't the referee job to allow a fighter to continue, if the bell is coming. Not even going to mention that he interrupted Usyk on 2-3 occasions and if he wanted to count a KD based on the rope, there was literally 3 or 4 of this, before the time when ref decide to stop Usyk from finishing Fury, and instead of stopping the fight, giving him a count. Absolutely pathetic job. Given that a clear headbutt from Fury caused Usyk cut, and the ref declared 2 ROUNDS later there is a cut, and it's caused by a punch, just tells you all you need to know about how corrupt he was.
