ive seen only 1 full fight of usyk, and i think evander and spinks both beat him, independent of everything else. i expect his hw campaign will better clear up the comparisons.
I think I agree with hollyfield For a few reasons, his adaptability the main one. He would be so awkward for usyk he would rough him right up, imagine them in the clench/on the inside lol he would get bullied. Iam not saying usyk is one dimensional I also haven’t seen enough of him to be sure, but Iam certain he wouldn’t be able to control the distance, and that’s his asset take that away and he’s done for. Hollyfield would be on him the whole time. Add to that usyks power couldn’t hurt Evander his chin is dynamite . Usyk is a strange one for me, it took me along time to acknowledge his talent, and as much as I love to see a pure boxer there’s something I don’t see in usyk, I don’t know what it is but I just don’t enjoy watching him fight. He’s definatly the gamest fighter out there right now tho.
BS. I'm 36, old enough to "know better". It has naught to do with age. Heavyweight fanatics who claim it to be the most important or compelling division have always been idiots at worst, casual boxing fans at best - as never in the sport's history was that ever in fact true. Even when I was a kid and Mike Tyson was the baddest man on the planet, that was because he was Mike Tyson, not because he was a heavyweight. That status as baddest man on the planet was IN SPITE of being a mere heavyweight (the p4p wort division in boxing across every single era since the Queensberry rules were adopted), not due to it. Each division exists and should be judged in a vacuum. Period.
It’s not the fans man it’s the fighters, and it’s all down to the history of the division, it makes sense really would you rather be an atg in a 30 year old divison? or an atg in 130 year old division? to be compared to fighters your grandfather talked about when you were a kid. It’s not disrespectful to say that there’s more prestige in certain divisions, a divison with more champions historically gives a greater pool of champions to be compared against.
Except that, aside from Louis and maybe Ali, the champs in that division are inferior p4p h2h fighters to almost every other division's top 15+..
It has literally always been, and continues to be today. This content is protected This content is protected This content is protected
to us CW was a bonus division, we never saw it as bona fide, you arent going to change today what I've seen for the past 30 years. When you watch what were to be new HWs, moving en masse to a new division, then thats your reaction, a move to simply get you to pay twicew for your fights. You call it BS because you are only 36 and didnt witness the exodus. Thats said, I generally agree with this -
true, my thoughts are this - I tihnk someone unifying like Usyk did (and let me add that he did it instyle too) is a sign of elitedom regardless of being a CW or HW. i think if he had huffed and puffed to a SD over some 40 year old then sure I'd say no way jose was that elite...but he didnt, he won a tournie of actual titleholders. Its a real sign of greatness in the Witcher (as I nickname Usyk). Youngsters do not understand that when we were watching HWs, and then we saw this CW division popping up with lacklustre HWs moving to it, our reaction was "wow what a hole for bumclubbers, I'm not paying TWICE to watch my HW boxing, do I look like a sucker?". These days that would not be the reaction so I agree my view is becoming outdated as time passes, and I hae increasingly started watching CW now particularly with future greats like Usyk, but I rarely revisit the hufflepufflers of the CW 90s because to me it was full of runaways from the real competition. The fights back then lacked the pop and crackle of the top HWs. Too many slow blunderers, combining the worst features of HWs (being slow) with the worst features of the lower divisions (lack of power). But this has clearly changed. I am all for the division moving forward.
Usyk resume at CW is far superior than any other CW ever. However wheather he will be as succesful of a boxer as Hollyfield and achieve what Hollyfield did at HW remains to be seen.
Nope, it will be totally irrelevant to what he's done at Cruiser, incomparable, fighting different fighters etc
tell me, what makes the other belt holders in the tourney special? what makes them more than a bunch of b fighters evenly matched and making tight fights between themselves? who have they beat to prove their quality, besides each other?
I feel his tourney competition, and CW in general over these last couple years, has been vastly overrated. That said, Usyk's major opponents have been quality guys, top 10 caliber even when comparing to the divisions with superior quality and quantity. They were the top guys at the division.
