He just made the cruiserweight Gennady Golovkin look like cruiserweight David Lemieux. You can't make this **** up.
Looking back at the Lewis vs Holyfield fight, Lewis outboxed Holyfield comfortably. I had it 9-3 or 8-4. Usyk is a better boxer than Holyfield so I believe he has a great chance to outbox him. Now, I will admit that Holyfield at CW was a slightly different animal.
I don’t remember being this damn impressed after a fight. Totally thought it was a 50/50 fight yesterday. Usyk is a badass mofo.
Honestly Nelson unravelled a lot of myths for me in boxing. The very reason that every uprising star that's 20-0 with 16 KOs isn't a shoe in for victory even when the odds are heavily in there favour against the old pretenders. Sadly I was to young to watch the guy live though, or maybe not, as he wasn't the most aesthetically pleasing fighter. He was a 190 cruiser for 95% of his career I believe, his last few fights would have been at 200 though. Can't remember specifically when the weight shifted in the cruiser division. And realistically Uysk would outbox him. There'd be a few close rounds, but Uysk is a H2H force to be reckoned with even in a historical sense.
Lewis has the better resume but Usyk is the more skilled technician. It's like Thurman and Manny. Thurman is without a doubt a better boxer than Manny but Manny has a much better resume.
Not an uncommon sentiment but honestly, logically explain to me how what he did at HW improves the reality of what he did in another division, CW. It's an absurd stance. It doesn't make his CW accomplishments change, he beat who he beat and it should be judged in an isolated manner if you're rating the greatest boxers in a particular division. It's also selective, Micky Walker who i love never gets rated as a top 10 in any division (rightfully so) because he simply didn't stay long enough in any one division to get the depth necessary. P4P he's a god and would disfigure many of the guys in the top 10 for WW or MW rated ahead of him but divisional accomplishments are divisional accomplishments.
Lewis still had a tough time against Holyfield in rematch, and Holy was clearly past his prime then. Although Usyk is way more skilled than Lewis, he doesn't hold such a massive size advantage over Holyfield. It would be 50/50 fight in my opinion.
CW holyfield today would essentially be HW holyfield. 200 limit means he can be 215 in the ring easy. With Vada testing Holyfield would probably just be a huuuge LHW.
The thing is when you watch Usyk in the WSB against these much bigger SWHs you can see they're feeling his shots. The punches coming back at him are slower so he feels more comfortable sitting down on his own shots a bit more. He stopped fighters that went the distance with 6'6'' 230-250lb power punchers, genuine knockout punchers like this guy for instance. That guy he flattens at the start of the video is Mihai Nistor aka the fighter who stopped AJ. Granted it wasn't the same AJ as the one now but Nistor is a tough SOB and one of the best SHWs in the world. This content is protected
I don't necessarily think Usyk is more skilled than holyfield as his punches are thrown akwardly and holyfields were thrown with more technique imo. But I will say that Usyk in his short time as a pro has cemented himself as the best CW since holyfield and that's a huge feat to accomplish for Usyk, since Holyfield left the division about 30 years ago.
Yes sir & I agree can't count The Elites of the past out against Usyk. The fact Nelson lost his first dozen or so fights then became champ gives me a boxing Boner. I agree man no doubt Nelsion is such a fun boxer to watch no doubt. I'd even go back & watch fights of his that the majority of ppl call boring
It feels like you're trying to get me to second guess myself in picking a locked top 10, arguably a top 5 heavyweight of all time against a 15-0 cruiserweight that's only 24 years old. Be patient my friend, the best from Uysk is still to come.
