HW has always been a shallow division, I just can't help but notice its only called a weak era if the HW champ looks a certain way. Kind of like how they were saying this NBA era is weak because joker and luka started putting up serious numbers. Just something to think about. Merry Christmas everyone.

Wilder was a top 3 based on nothing more than hype. Anyone can claim to be the best when they haven't fought anyone. Lets look at after the fact. Now that Wilder has fought some top guys is the top three? No, because he never was.

Lewis would have toyed with old fat Foreman look what he did to Morrison, look how Foreman struggled with Stewart who got blown away by Tyson, these fighters were far quicke than 90`s Foreman.

Put it this way, if Usyk was from the U.S, he would be the biggest star in the sport right now.

I think the NBA thing is more about entertainment or playstyles than talent.

Usyk is a niche fighter and it's popular to like him to show how "non-casual" you are. The truth is that outside of his technical brilliance he is not entertaining at heavyweight and does not generate significant revenue on his own. His heavyweight record is also questionable, having beat 2 shop worn champions twice and Dubois, who is massively overrated. He was an ATG amateur and pro cruiserweight but he needs to do a little more at heavy for my money. Benefited from being in the right place at the right time too in both divisions.

    Come at me.

i respect your point of view and i am certainly not "coming at you."

That being said, i am not sure if Joshua was shop worn. Many people thought Joshua was getting better after his rematch with Ruiz. Joshua was still in his physical prime and Usyk was expected to be stopped by him. Yet Usyk completely dominated.

Fury being shop worn may or may not be true. But Usyk has been chasing Fury since at least 2021. Fury could have fought him much earlier but chose to delay things.

Boxing isn't big in the US anymore. Hasn't been in a long time. The last boxing match that i recall getting huge coverage was Mayweather-Pac and despite the PPV's, my guess is that fight was the final nail in the coffin.

Joshua after Andy Ruiz 1 was not the same Joshua we saw before his mental game had completely gone. They put him in with Pulev who was tailor made for him to KO to try and build his confidence. I'm not sure anyone who knew their boxing expected Joshua to beat Usyk but at the time I was impressed he took the fight and didn't try to duck him.

The HW division has always been weak in one form or other. Either there are a few great fighters dominating a mediocre crop of smaller or overweight/underskilled guys, or there are a bunch of good fighters on a similar level but with enough stylistic differences to trade wins with each other and make the division look competitive. Occasionally you'll get a few great fighters in competitive matches with a crop of good evenly matched guys trading wins beneath them, but that's happened maybe twice in the division's history, the 70s and the 90s. This division has one great though ringworn undisputed champion and some solid evenly matched competition beneath him, many with huge knockout power, so all in all I'd say it isn't in too bad a shape.

He did to a certain extent

Dont get me wrong Usyk would be great in any era but he did shut down a lot of the preconcieved notions of todays heavyweights are better because they are bigger faster stronger etc

Also shut down Fury being some kind of head to head king whoch was largely built off of what exactly ?

    Beating Deontay Wilder ?
