Usyk by far. Nevermind that he cleaned out a cruiser division that was stacked to the gills with hardasses. Nevermind that he went up a division and cleaned up the champion who was prime (unlike Vodka Kovalev) while giving away 20lb and winning in the other guys backyard without controversy. Usyk did it without headbutts, single leg takedowns or nut shots. He relied on raw skill and was as exciting AF while doing it, unlike Snoozemaster Droopy Dawg Ward.
I actually had Kova beating Ward. So even if I rated Kova as a more daunting opponent than AJ, to me Ward lost that one. Usyk on the other hand dominated AJ. Maybe if I thought Ward beat Kova in the first fight, Id perhaps be more inclined to agree with you. But I will say maybe its closer than I thought in my initial reaction.
If we will start to dissect resumes from amateur rules ranks. Ward was really very good amateur boxer. I had saw 7 his am boxing fights and he really with 0 doubts was world elite level boxer. If looking deeper: Usyk too had Olympic Gold medal like Ward and more than this alone: he was World Championship Gold medalist not only Olympic Gold medalist. Usyk's am resume is better while I think Ward was real world elite amateur boxer.
I'm going in head first, and say Ward doesn't clinch it this time around. It would be a low blow to road warrior Usyk, to pick the Oakland warrior over him. Ok, I'm done with the puns now... I never rated Ward very highly at all, because despite having an outstanding resume, there's so much controversy surrounding it that I put an asterisk on almost his entire career. He didn't even actually win his biggest fight, despite being allowed to spoil and clinch as much as he wanted, the judges still had to win the fight for him. usyk never had much controversy in his career, and fought at a much stronger weightclass too.
"Didnt even win his biggest fight". True, but neither did Ray Leonard. And I'm not prepared to say Usyk is greater than Leonard. I have Ward as slightly greater than Usyk. Or basically they're about even. I expect Usyk to separate before he retires though.
Well, if he had 2 nd fight vs Kessler and 3 rd fight vs Kovalev with 0 questions, his resume might had looked far better. While he really is good boxer.
When resume's are quite close and comparable that is. Ali lost all 3 fights against Norton in my (and if you read between the lines, his own) opinion, and my opinion is he lost 2/3 against Frazier. Still he's bigger as Usyk. Ray lost to Marvin, but is clearly above Usyk. That's where we disagree.
Nah man. Im a big Ward fan on here, supported him through all his big fights but Ward cant beat Usyk no way no how.
Usyk, and it's not even close. Check out Ward attempting to head-butt to get out of trouble after being dropped at the 32-second mark. Why include Andre in the conversation unless you approve of rewarding bad behavior? This content is protected
