Usyk says 2-3 more fights before he retires

All his last 6 fights were mandatory fights...

 

and I already stated that there were some clowns who felt he deserved a knockout body blow against Usyk.

 

If he drops the belt, then the guys who earnt a shot can get that belt. What's wrong about it?

 

No they weren't.

 

Boxing is still a sport .

In every sport the basic goal is the athletes compete with each other and the best of them will be the champion . Currently usyk is considered as the champion and the benchmark in the heavyweight division .

When he wants to keep this status he simply MUST face the best competition available to proove he is still the best athlete of the division .

Staying on top without prooving it via sporting achievements kills every individual sporting discipline by basic definition . Imagine the best swimmer refuses to swim at all where he can and if he does , he prefers to NOT compete against the best available but only against chanceless low level contenders .

Its true that boxing can accept here and there a soft touch by the champ but only when the champ has already dozens of opponents on his counter . When the champ has 5 and now ducks three new in a row instead fighting a shot not even top 10 guy the entire division makes fun of itself .

Imho the story stinks

 

Boxers tend to want to fight the guy at the top for fame, fortune, and/or legacy. If the guy at the top drops a belt, then everyone on that particular ladder, stops, and reconsiders their route to the top. Maybe they jump to a different ladder, but which one in the rotation? Maybe they don't have the financial backing to change ladder. What if Usyk drops that belt as well, are they wasting their time?

In the next few months, the top 10 at heavyweight is going to look quite different due how many of them won't have fought at all in the last 12 months. It starts at the top.

Also consider that Wlad's unseating by Fury and further loss to Joshua led to an exciting period. Imagine if Wlad just said, Fury? I'm not going to make much money off that. He can have the WBO...I'm going to fight Shannon Briggs instead.

 

Yes, but he didn't want to keep his undisputed champion status and drop the belt to Wardley. Wardley is champion now.

If Usyk was greedy, he would somehow come to an agreement with all 4 sanctioning bodies, and wouldn't drop the belt and continue being undisputed champion.

 

So they should build their own legacy then. They don't need to fight Usyk to prove their greatness. Fight other boxers.

 

Exactly that happened . He has an agreement with wbc to put wilder as title defence avoiding kabayel and he had an injury extension by wbo to avoid parker .

He dropped the wbo belt not because he wanted to be good for the sport but he dropped it because the wbo after the "injury extension" was unable to find excuses how
to now also avoid wardley without completely loosing its own face . They gave him as last benefit the opportunity to drop it instead of stripping him .

Boxing makes no sense at all when its handled that way .

What kinda backwards logic is that? If you want to build a legacy as a contender you do that by fighting the champion who is currently Usyk. If the champion is refusing to fight legit contenders it just turns the sport into a circus. If you want that, go watch WWE.

 

Oldschool is a funny guy. First Usyk is doing everything perfectly and he states left and right that usyk is only in it for the money and will take only money fights. And when usyk starts to do that he defends that as acceptable/correct?

Either trolling or pro business instead of pro sport or devil's advocate or i don't know :-D

I say strip usyk if he doesn't do an actual defense a year at least. Let him do wilder and fury in between.
That should have happened with canelo, too. But then they put some knockover in their mandatory positions...

So, Usyk had and injury and Kabayel chose to fight Knyba who is outside top 30. When Kabayel does it, it's fine, but when Usyk does it he's a coward. Great.

 

Because fighting Wilder brings a bigger paycheck than fighting Kabayel or Wardley.
