I don't think anyone, Usyk included, cares about this mere technicality. He has been the Man of the division for some time now and there is no doubt about it. He was still undisputed when the WBA did their little bull****.

    Yeah I get it.
There's something to be said for someone who can reach the top, lose it, and get themselves up mentally to reconquer.
Usyk hasn't had to do that through no fault of his own, and I don't think it matters much to be honest.

to me, seeing them recover their crown, after having lost it fair and square in the ring, is the only one that means much to me. getting it back, like in life, is a test of determination and spirit. we all take some hard falls in everything we do in life. some are broken, some jump right back on the horse for another amazing ride.

You know Lennox Lewis (British/Canadian) actually did this for all of his heavy weight world titles. I'm not sure it is particularly uncommon in history, either. Fighters go where the money is.

    • Lewis became WBC email champion through no fault of his own, but his first defense of the belt was in America against former IBF champion, Tony Tucker.
    • Lewis regained the WBC championship against Oliver McCall again in America.
    • Lewis picked up the Lineal title against Shannon Briggs in America.
    • Lewis fought the biggest fight of his career to become undisputed champion against Hollyfield in America.
    • Lewis fought the rematch also in America.
    • Lewis regained his titles against Rahman in America.

Usyk became undisputed and lineal heavyweight champion on neutral soil against Fury. Some may argue he was the financial B-side - which he was - but Usyk had also signed a multi-fight deal with the Saudis. So, it was a neutral venue.

Lewis is the actual two-time lineal heavyweight champion who did it on the road. Usyk is most definitely a road warrior, but he didn't actually do what Lewis did.

Dropping one belt to fight it back straight away from a guy you have already beaten while this guy not even defended it makes the undisputed pretty meaningless , sure.

But on paper usyk imho indeed is .

Lewis was never an undefeated + undisputed champion he had already been one punch iced in a couple of rounds by McCall in his backyard in his 3rd defence of the WBC crown and then he was one punch iced out again by Rahman in his 4th defence of the undisputed crown, both of whom Lewis was bigger and taller than with a longer reach. And then he retired after his 2nd defence after regaining his belts allowing Vitali to chase him out of the sport forever

He did lose his belts in the ring, twice, in fact, to smaller men

Lewis was a road warrior too but he was often the bigger or much bigger man not much or way smaller and the is also one of the biggest punchers in HW boxing history and his power was the great equalize

And travelling into your opponent's backyard drastically increases your chance of losing either via hook or crook and loses often affect your earning potential

Despite Lewis very often been the much or bigger man and being one of the biggest punchers in HW boxing history he was a very dirty fighter who would even utilize very dirty tactics against woefully overmatched and undersized bums who stood zero chance of winning. He should have at least one DQ loss on his ledger

Yes, the only belt Usyk didn't win in his opponent's backyard, as said, was Belly which was staged in Saudi by the man who is business partners with the promoter of one of his favourite fighters ie. Usyk's opponent and he made it very clear to not only to Team Usyk but everyone he desperately wantedthem to win so I'm not sure exactly how neutral it was over there

Lewis was undisputed in the three-belt era not four and, as said, he was very often the much or bigger man and was not facing much bigger men, let alone savage punchers and legit bangers much bigger than him
