Sweet Caroline was great when it was played twice a year at frampton fights then Hearns junior saw it and extrapolated that would be a genius move to play it six times a night at thirty shows a year because “the fans love it koogs”.
The crowd of 3000 start singing it at a Matchroom UK show, Laura Woods and Bellew turn around, ‘let’s just take a minute to take this in’ as if they’re watching 50,000 belt out God Save The Queen at the World Cup final.
Which, I might add, would be a truly awful experience too. I could be wrong but I don't think there's ever been a national anthem that has been the subject of a derogatory and brilliantly accurate cover, other than the England one. You are spot on though, that's exactly how it goes down with Sweet Caroline, which has now been adopted at the football too. Sweet Caroline and God Save The Queen from now until forever, Jeez.
This board is a parody of itself at times. It's almost like some of these posters are on the Queensberry payrol how they defend that crap to the hilt and make up reasons to go in on other promoters and fighters. Embarrassing really Personally I do think pushing the price point isn't all that justified. But there was a bid for broadcasting rights. Sky Sports won, and they set the price. But creeping price points isn't a good trend
Matchroom have been infesting boxing forums and YouTube comments for years. Rumour has it that Queensberry staff have put a proposal in to big frank on multiple occasions to redress the balance but it has been declined every time as a waste of resource because the internet is “a fad”
100% nail on the head. There's more Matchroom haters than fans here. Use any other Boxing forum and you will find a balanced conversation. Here? Pure Matchroom hate.
I think matchroom is seen as a company that puts in fights for a casual audience. Posters on here like to look down on what they perceive as a casual so it becomes a constant theme of double standards being shown as certain events are either praised or slagged off depending purely on which promotional company has organised the event. Yes ppv certainly isn’t going to get any cheaper but as I say if you are happy to pay £25 for Fury v Whyte then this card is good value in comparison. If we ever see Fury v AJ it will be £30 guaranteed.
The idea that boxing fans are fans of specific promoters is probably the most tangible way matchroom have “changed the game”. Such an absurd concept but here you are pal.
The problem with rematchroom is the quality of the fights they put on is a joke. Giving fat bums Whyte and Chisora PPV fights and justifying it 'you can't expect Dillian/Derek to fight for anything less' is a genuine disgrace. Rematchroom get a monopoly on the sport (like they have with darts for example), and it would be disastrous !
That’s what Hearn thought he was doing when he signed with DAZN. Telling Showtime to leave the sport and that unless people signed with DAZN there’d be no fights for them Luckily for us they’ve fooked themselves over with DAZN and there’ll be no monopoly.
Frank will soon have you all singing the boxing national anthem at his shows God save our Queensbury Long live our noble Frank God save our sport
Can’t wait for Whyte Chisora 3. Two fat European level brawlers doing their best Butterbean impressions after the crowds been warmed up by Johnny Fisher v Johnny Vegas on the co main.
