Unified a division in just 15 fights, winning all of his world titles in his opponent's backyards, winning all of his world title fights on the road, all bar one of which in his opponent's backyards, and he's beaten 4 undefeated fighters in their countries, 3 of whom were reigning world champions, and 4 current or former world champions, and not one of the officials for any of his world title fights has been Ukrainian and he won all his fights via clean boxing and zero deck stacking or rolling with loaded dice. I didn't think Bellew was going to beat Haye.....but he did.....and twice!! If anyone deserves the big pay day to retire on then he does......do I think he will win......probably not.....but he will give it a good go. Good luck Tony
I agree re: Bellew. He bangs on about his power but his ring IQ is his strongest suit. And that's the main reason why I'm picking Uysk, because I feel his ring IQ is even better. I think the fight will be a bit of a chess match until Bellew gets more desperate in the later rounds...
Props to Hearn for getting this deal done and around that Lebedev called mando mess. This is actually a interesting fight which could turn out to be really good. Bellew for all the stick he gets the guy is a warrior and will not back down or be intimidated by the Usyk hype. I'm already charged by the announcement, can't wait for the fight!
I have a suspicion that Tony could yet prove a harder challenge for Usyk than anyone he's fought previously including Gassiev and I anticipate an interesting fight wherein both men will have their moments. In the end I can't really see there being any other outcome other than a Usyk UD but if Tony does manage to pull it off it will be a legitimate candidate for upset of the year in my mind. Great fight.
Bellew will be willing to punch with Usyk, something stylistically Gassiev wouldn't or couldn't do. It's a good fight, Bellew love him or hate him is much better at cruiserweight/heavyweight.
This would have to be the first time I've had real interest in a Tony Bellew fight. No offense to him, I like him. But I'm really hyped for this one.
A great read. I've got a huge amount of respect for Tony. On a sad note, I've just heard of the passing of Enzo Calzaghe. Awful news.
