Chisora would easily win a british title. Just because usyk made him look average doesnt mean anything, usyk makes pretty much anyone look average. Just look what he did to gassiev! Chisora destroyed price and spilka and two very close fights with top contender whyte, hes still a top 20 possibly top 10 heavyweight.
Of course it depends whos holding the belt, but my point was hes easily british level and has proven hes still a solid top 10/20 world level fighter. Dubois and joyce are way above british level themselves.
Funny how a lot of people were complaining about the possibility that Fury might fight Kabayel, a guy who outpointed Chisora clearly 3 years ago. Predictably, when Usyk UD12 Chisora it gets all this recognition, like it actually means something.
I dont think you can begrudge him a payday. Hes been around years, has been in with lots of top 10 guys, he fights anyone and has always been at european level/fringe world level. Hes been so close a few times to world titles or title contention but ultimately came up short. I have to admire the man because a few years ago he looked done and then he had the balls to call up an enemy in david haye and by all accounts has worked his arse off these last few years, he beat takam, so close against whyte and had the szpilka and price wins. Hes been on a good run, worked hard for it and deserved his reward. Cant really knock him for getting a big payday i think hes deserved it, he can now retire with a few quid. Be sad when he retires really, hes always been entertaining and been the yard stick for which many fighters have been tested. Boxing needs guys like chisora.
I’ve just seen Hayes IFL interview. Did the Sky commentators really have Chisora losing three of the first four rounds as he said they did? I watched the DAZN feed and their commentary team clearly hadn’t indulged in as many pre-fight drinks as Skys if what he said is true.
It was a weird one by all accounts, as Sky saw Kambosos winning well and Usyk dominating, but DAZN had Selby wide and scored a lot more for Chisora
A few quid? The plodding pudding has earned near £30m and achieved a British Title. Those PPV Mugths poked time and again.
People shouldn't be complaining about it. I've said since he was first announced that fight is perfectly fine. The only complaints that are justified are that he's done sod all since and that he isn't seen as a real threat to Fury style wise. But I'd struggle to tell you many fighters are a threat to him.
Chisnora the gatekeeper needs to fight the winner of Joyce Dubois next so we can gauge their progress then use Chisnora again and again and again for prospects. He then will become Danny Williams cos he can’t keep away from the limelight.....
Chisora was in great shape and his conditioning allowed him a second wind when he was looking all but done. Usyk was textbook - had a look for a couple of rounds and then picked him off at a walk in the park pace. Don’t think he even had to go through the gears. Nothing more than a spar for him. Must be AJ and Fury next although I’m certain we’ll see him fight for the vacated WBO before those fights happen.
There's been a lot of speculation this week that this is exactly what has happened. I don't know whether Povetkin actually has coronavirus or not, I wouldn't like to think they made that up, or buy into that kind of conspiracy theory. But I think Hearn/SKY might be relieved to "only" have an Anthony Joshua PPV left to sell to the casuals before Christmas, because I suspect the Usyk-Chisora one did worse than even their modest expectations and probably put a dampener on the Povetkin-Whyte expectations when it was scheduled for this month.
I wonder if the football PPV aspect had an impact as well. I know it’s gone now, and they didn’t do massive numbers, but it sounds like Sky weren’t keen on it, especially when their priority was three boxing PPVs to try and flog before Christmas. Probably a fair bit of crossover with the casual audience that makes up a good percentage of boxing PPV buys, and if you were only buying one PPV last weekend, chances are it’s for the team you support.
It's also good that we have popular fighters who do have a few losses. Too much is made of fighers keeping their '0'. It's bad for the sport and means fighters cherry pick. In UFC, less is made of being undefeated. The expectation is the best fight the best and will win a few and lose a few. That's how it should be really. I'd never pay a PPV for Chisora headlining but I think it's good for the sport having people like Whyte, Chisora and Price as fairly high profile who are good fighters with a few losses on their record.
