You want to make a statement in the HW division? Step up and run rings around a man who made Wilder look extremely average. His quickest route to a HW title imo. Edit: Bellew is ranked 5th by WBC! So Usyk could cement his CW legacy by beating ex WBC champ Bellew, and get ranked at the same time! Bellew to Ortiz to Wilder!
Usyk would make easy work of Ortiz who is very predictable but has some solid fundamentals which caused Wilder a lot of problems until the second bomb landed. I would much prefer Usyk goes straight away for either AJ or Wilder. He has fought HWs before and beaten them and he isnt going to need to bulk up at all and should not bulk up. If that is not possible. Usyk in order to get maximum ranking points should go either for Ortiz as you say or the winner of Whyte/Parker.
Neither will take him as a voluntary as it doesnt make sense given his ability, but also relative lack of draw for a fight that risky. I personally thinks he beats both. But i'd rather see him take Wilder first as Joshua actually appears to be improving aspects of his game fight to fight, whereas Wilder still hasnt improved on weaknesses he's showed his whole career. Summer 2020. 100,000 at Wembley stadium watching a unified HW taking on a unified CW. Here's hoping anyway...
I think because of Ortiz lack of speed of foot, he wouldn't be able to land that patented left of his which really is his only good punch. I like Usyk by 118-110.
Wrong first step as a HW. Usyk should fight a former CW like Bellew first, then stepping up the level of opposition. Ortiz would eat Bellew alive. Usyk would probably win a wide UD vs Ortiz also it's a more interesting matchup then you might think. Ortiz has a genious ring iq.
Agree AJ has a boxing brain and versatility. You can see the development and the fact he can fight in different ways means he is far more of a threat to Usyk. Meanwhile against decent opposition- Deontay is just a guy with good reflexes and a huge punch (if it lands). So Wilder is the easier fight by far for such an elite boxer like Usyk who isnt going to get tired and leave an opening. Usyk can already formulate his game plan now because Wilder only does a few things in every fight. When you have such good movement, its an easy style to win every minute of every round against it.
Would make a good fight and I think his movement would make Ortiz look every bit his age. Can't see him catching Usyk, he's a natural counter puncher and isn't good at being the one to chase, Usyk would win a clear decision, if not stop him late with his sheer volume by grinding him down. But is it a fight that makes financial sense? Probably not, if he beats Bellew a shot vs the winner of Whyte/Parker who will likely be ranked number 1 makes more sense from a financial stand point and gets Usyk closer to a shot at Wilder.
Ortiz would look slow as molasses and pay for it with a battered, gassed out corpse by round 10, though he moight have his moments using his veteran traps occasionally to catch out the green 2Slyk.
At Heavyweight..... And yep, what you're thinking now is exactly what I thought at the time I saw it too. It just goes to show that the WBC is just as inept as any other organisation. Although they've actually put themselves in a bit of a pickle now..... Bellew got to 5th by beating Haye, who wasn't even top 10. So when Usyk beats Bellew, they have no choice but to put Wilder in his grasp almost straight away.
