Why? A case could be made. However, that does not mean he'd beat Ali. I believe the skills of very fast fighters with great reflexes are sometimes overrated. There's a blurry line between what's skill and just superb athleticism.
Usyk 150-135. Ali's nowhere near as skilled or athletic and struggled badly with the likes of journeyman cruiser Doug Jones, journeyman LHW Henry Cooper and half-blind, 5'10, fat LHW Frazier. All of which were featherfists by today's standards with awful KO records against bigger opponents, who tended to be total carthorses back then.
Henry Cooper was way faster and had a far more powerful left hook than Wlad Klitschko. 185 lbs journeymen from the 60's and 70's were vastly superior to these so-called "modern elite HW athletes".
Ali would struggle a lot. Southpaws gave him problems. He never made any tactical adjustments in his fights. Just look how badly he performed against Karl Mildenburger.
No, just no. I am a Usyk fan, have been since most of you were in high school by the sound of some of these posts, but how can you compare them after Usyk's HW resume. Do you extrapolate based on Evan Fields success at HW? RJJ who moved up and fought the absolute easiest fight possible (still a great accomplisent but a bad decision in hindsight) and left? Ali versus Leon Spinks? It is just too early. Ali is arguably the greatest HW of all time, particularly the Clay who went to prison. He fought in a golden era against great fighters in their prime. That version of Clay would dominate every HW division since. Only if Usyk cleans out this HW division can we consider a comparison.
Van Damme was crap, his fight scenes were slow I saw a real fight with him on youtube and he was crap, Bruce`s jeet kune do is proven and he was far quicker all Van Damme had was size.
Ali's nowhere near as skilled or as athletic as Usyk ? Frazier a LHW ? Are you serious ? If you're basing your opinion on Ali struggling with Journeyman Doug Jones and Henry Cooper then how come he didn't lose to the top guys in the 60s ? He beat guys who were levels above Doug Jones and Henry Cooper with ease. Actual reality contradicts your logic. You post some of the dumbest **** in this forum in regards to old school boxing.
Let me correct that for you, lad. Mildenberger was completely outclassed by a fighter several levels of skill and speed beyond him. Ali toyed with the German for most of the fights landing at will, knocking his hapless opponent down three times while busting up his face. The merciful end came when the ref called a halt in the twelfth. This content is protected
I think Usyk is used to be being the faster fighter. He has great upper body movement, but Ali had great upper body movement, quick feet, and a superior jab. Usyk would be forced into coming forward and getting countered. On the other hand Ali would also be facing one of the quickest most defensive minded fighters he'd have ever faced as well, however I just don't see Usyk outboxing or being able to stalk Ali down. I'd revist that opinion if Usyk faces some more elite heavyweights, but considering this era there won't be much competition.
I assume you are kidding but just in case ... Ali was never knocked out as a professional. He did retire on his stool against Holmes.
I did this thread a couple of years ago and it was taken down. This is how Usyk looked at 221 lbs: https://www.google.com/search?q=Usyk+weigh+in+joshua&client=ms-android-huawei-rev1&prmd=invx&sxsrf=AOaemvIhckOasYqLfjWnz2JiXkfdSafnBA:1632803895527&source=lnms&tbm=isch&sa=X&ved=2ahUKEwilp7jB7KDzAhWTyYsKHUZoAPsQ_AUoAXoECAIQAQ&biw=360&bih=651&dpr=3#imgrc=eimeizBopNZxHM And this is Ali at 220: https://robertedwardauctions.com/auction/2016/spring/1707/1975-muhammad-ali-joe-frazier-signed-magazine-centerfold/#&gid=1&pid=1
