Sadly, people have forgotten about Evanders accolades at HW. Entering the division at 25, taking on some great beasts as a smaller man than Usyk. He did a lot. 5 times heavyweight champion.

I admire Usyk but… Chisora, Witherspoon, AJ twice and maybe Fury win…. enters a conversation but it doesn’t reach Evander. What if Usyk loses?

    I agree fully
The era was much tougher back then

People forget how often Holyfield was underdog and prevailed

Tyson names his toughest opponent - holyfield
Lewis names his toughest opponent - Holyfield
Bowe names his toughest opponent - Holyfield

Big George after their fight said Evander could hang with anyone

Usyk is very good, but I'm not putting him ahead of Holyfield. He would need to decimate Fury to make me think (he will do well to win a close decision)

It surpasses Holyfield because Joshua and Fury are H2H at minimum (to be polite) as good as Holyfield's best wins, and Usyk doesn't also have multiple losses in his prime.

Bowe and post prison Tyson would knock that version of Ajs head right off

Usyk hasn't beat Fury yet, but I wouldn't pick fury to beat Bowe and I certainly wouldn't pick him to beat Lewis (yes Holyfield didn't either, but pushed him close following the draw robbery)

I think Holyfield beats any of those. We’re in an age where if you’re 4-0 you’re in the top 10 and if you’re 11-0 you’ve been waiting two years for your ‘deserved’ title shot. A boxer today can’t walk from the gym to his car without stepping on a meaningless world title belt. Novices beat novices and the ones who win are treated like they’ve accomplished something.

None of the above you mentioned had accomplished as much as Qawi (across two divisions). None were as good. Qawi is HoF material, top guy in two different divisions and has the skills to prove it.

Holyfield was an amazing fighter and an ATG.
But Evan Fields sure did like his vitamin pills!

Is there some kind of drug testing involved? I loved Evander but he was on the strong vitamins for sure. I would like to hire his nutritionist for six months to get myself nourished. Need to pack on thirty pounds of muscle and make my skull get bigger. He was a joy to watch and had a granite chin. Usyk by disqualification after Evander pisses HOT like lava.

Qawi was one of my favorites but can you imagine what Usyk would I do to him? He’d give him a boxing lesson from hell and not lose a single exchange. Easy easy money for Usyk. He’s a guy who beats giants. A midget would be like a day off.

Briedis is easily HOF. 3x CW champion, lineal champ, Super Series winner, #1 in his division for years. Not to mention he isn't 5'5, and his best CW win isn't Leon Spinks.

He is levels more accomplished at CW than Qawi was, he was actually #1, didn't lose to nearly every contender he fought at CW, and beat actually good opponents.

OK, if you say so. I see a guy who lost to the best guy in his division (Usyk) and was better than the leftovers, but I don’t see who he beat that was notable.

I’m not saying he’s not a good fighter but basically if you put a bunch of guys in a tournament and they fight each other, one of them is going to win the tournament. But I’d say Huck is probably the only truly accomplished fighter he ever beat.

    We can agree to disagree.

I don’t know. There’s some apples and oranges at work.

    1) Qawi was champion of a cruiserweight division with a 190-pound limit.

    2) In his day they had same-day weigh-ins.

    3) Championship fights were 15 rounds.

I’d give Dwight a heck of a chance at 190 pounds over 15 on same-day weigh-in. Usyk would be pretty drained.

And I don’t rate Qawi over Usyk. I rate Evander over Usyk. I do think Qawi is a better championship win for Evander than Usyk’s title win was.

Qawi was amazing to watch but Usyk’s wins at cruiser were more impressive. Usyk isn’t big and not a weight bully. He’s got a great gas tank and could easily fight fifteen round fights like an old school fighter. I wish we still had fifteen round fights. Talk about brutal battles. Fifteen rounds favors a guy like Usyk.

Evander was great and in my top two with Usyk. He was 1 for a long time. I just think Usyk is so smart and slick, and southpaw. It would have been a great matchup especially at fifteen rounds.
