Usyk potentially has two flaws which could limit his success at heavyweight imo,his chin,[relatively untested,] and his power, like his smaller clone Lomachenko ,he has a terrific variety of shots and wonderful movement, but has he enough pop in his shots to bother the bigger guys? We don't know, and that's why I'm not making a pick,I also avoid H2H' s when one fighter is still active. Otherwise we can get in a situation where an active fighter is picked to beat ATG's by posters ,only for that pick to look rather silly after subsequent results eg Kovalev.
Very sensible way to do these things although I don't recall you making any OTT calls about Kovalev from memory. I ate some large slices of humble pie when I developed a man crush on Nonito Donaire a few years back and reckoned he'd ride roughshod over everyone from 126 pounds and under going forward, and favoured him over some ATG Bantams and Super Bantams as well. Reality then showed Nonito to be a good but flawed fighter and me to be an optimistic but flawed pundit. Still I hope I'm right about Usyk. A victory of supreme skills over size and brawn would be wonderful for heavyweight boxing in my view.
No,I can honestly say I was never sold on Kovalev, terrific right hand puncher ,but everything he threw was long ,he couldn't fight inside and his chin was a bit up in the air.I would have made him and Stevenson a 50/50 fight. I hope you're right about Usyk too, I like what I have seen, and I like his personality. If he gained some wins over decent heavies it would be a shot in the arm for a division that has suddenly stalled a bit. I'd take him to beat Pulev and Parker now.
We have not seen Usky beaten as a professional, but the people who gave him the most trouble, were those who pressured him and did not give him room. Frazier has the right style to beat Usky.
