Masterful performance by Oleksandr Usyk, who got stronger and more dominant as the fight progressed. He averaged 21 of 78 punches per round over 12 rounds, while Murat Gassiev was reduced to 8 of 26 per frame. Usyk averaged 29 of 94 over the last six rounds and landed a fight high 47 of 117 in the last round.

    The total punches was:
    Usyk - 252(6 - body) from 939 thrown.

    Gassiev - 91( 35 - body) from 313 thrown.

    JABS:
    Usyk - 99(1)519

    Gassiev - 9(3)74

    Power punches:
    Usyk - 153(5)420

    Gassiev - 82(32)239

I`m putting this statistics because of one thing. To Show how inaccurate compubox statistics are. And now one should judge a fight from compubox stats.

No way in a hell Gassiev place 82 power punches in the target. And no way in a hell that Usyk landed less then 3 time more then Gassiev.

Usyk landed a lot more jabs, that are not counted, yet they counted 52 shots to the head from Gassiev, where there was probably no more then 10 power punches that landed.
Also most of Gassiev body punches was low or blocked by Usyk hands(elbows).

    Your opinion?

Compubox has a habit of scoring blocked punches, that's why it's important to judge a fight with your eyes rather than by the stats. However, there is some useful information to be gleaned there ... just remember that it's actually just a couple of people counting punches in real time and therefore flawed.

Compubox has a habit of scoring blocked punches and not scoring landed punches, they are very unreliable.
I stopped looking at Compubox stats a while ago.

Recently, I was speaking with someone who works for Sky Sports and he told me to calculate possession stats for a Premiership football games they used to have the most junior member of staff pressing buttons which corresponded to when either team had the ball. In one particular game, the person tasked with this role daydreamed for a while and messed up to such an extent he'd calculated one team had possession of the ball for an entire 15 min period. After this was pointed out to him, he spent the next 15 mins trying to re-calibrate by doing the same for the opposition.

I'm sure Compubox are more professional - as Sky are nowadays with football - but at the end of the day, like the Sky daydreamer, all they provide are non-accountable stats, via a method of data collection which lacks voracity and openness, accrued by people of which we know nothing about, including their name or potential conflict of interest (they might have favourite fighters, or boxers they hate).

In the end they can be used to confirm a fight was one-sided but in relation to a close contest, they are all but meaningless. At best trivia, but never evidence....

Thanks, that's a cool story lol. It doesn't surprise me. From what I know Compubox is still pretty outdated, it's still a couple of guys with a button ...

Still love that stat Merchant used. Fighters that throw and land more win around 90+% of the time
