Fury is the greatest of this era. He gives all past heavyweight champions issues. He rivals prime Lennox Lewis. But Lewis at his absolute peak was a powerful heavyweight monster. See the Golota fight. Fury merely adopted the kronk, Lewis was born in it, molded by it. And he adjusted mid fight when things got tough like the Mercer and Rahman fight.
All truth but Lennox made a fatal mistake when he accidently held Furys water bottle after he beat Wlad. A small lapse in judgement, totally understandable in his advanced age. But he let the ball slip and showed Fury could have him mentally.
Was Holyfield in his prime when byrd fought him ? He was 40 yrs old ? What do you think a 29 yr old would do against the same Chris Byrd ??? Ur ideology is whacked
Good post, I was a mad Holyfield fan back in the day, the dude had crazy courage, I won money on him against Tyson, told everybody he was gonna win that. However, I do look back and a few of his losses don't reflect greatly on him at heavyweight. At the time, I really rated Bowe, so his close amazing fights with Bowe, didn't reflect too badly on him. Now, though, I look back at Bowe and don't think history reveals him as anything too special, then you've got the Moorer loss, first time around. He was a tremendous brave competitor but Usyk is a god damn master, he could probably make it a relatively comfortable nights work against the 'real deal'.
Talk about a Dream Fight, this is one for the ages. I think Holyfield would beat Usyk as a Heavyweight, but i also feel like Usyk may be able to beat Holyfield as a Cruiser. 50/50 fights however you want to slice it.
This one is an interesting one as I feel both are actually bad style matchups for the other. Hard one to call, as they both have awesome intangibles. If pushed i'd probably have to go for a Usyk close decision, with osme real moments of adversity; much like the Briedis fight - who's stock has risen a lot of this hopefully, he will go on and beat Okolie soon hopefully
I like Usyk, don't like Holy but respect him very much as a warrior, it would be a very close fight IMHO. The key to beating Usyk is relentlessly pressuring him, body shots and dirty boxing (to be precise clinching) in my opinion. Holyfield can do these, he was the master of headbutting while going inside or clinching, using his elbows with hooks and he could relentlessly attack. Both with Joshua and Chisora, Usyk looked uncomfortable in clinch and was generally careful when clinching with especially Joshua. But Evan Fields while a smaller man than Joshua or Chisora, was a much more dangerous animal. I need to think about it more but it would be a very close match.
You've got to laugh when people bring up Holyfield's losses to Toney and Byrd. The guy was 40 years old for god's sake. Where were Ali and Tyson at 40? Using your logic Danny Williams and Kevin McBride were better than Tyson. Holyfield winning the second fight against Bowe was fine and against Lewis he was out of his prime, not to mention he had a massive size disadvantage against both. To expect a 37 year old, 6'1 215lb to win against a 34 year old 6'5 245lb champion is a bit much. He also avenged his loss to Moorer. He would more than hold his own against Usyk. Just his volume of punches will give Usyk problems.
I fancy Usyk in this one. He doesn't stay put in front of a fighter and Holyfield definitely liked a target that kept the range constant. Usyk's high workrate, unorthodox style and stamina right through the fight makes me think that he'd take a points win here. Holyfield might win if he could turn it into a war but Usyk doesn't play that game.
