And vice-versa. Joshua has had almost a year to learn to fight a southpaw, and if he comes in "more aggressive" and eats straight rights all night until he ends up on his ass instead, then its on him. Two good fighters...let the better man win!
They've been doing this his whole career. It's the one main criticism I have of him. It's disgraceful how inactive Joshua is and how he keeps holding up the division time and time again. (For all the criticism of Wilder, he was at least an active champion) Joshua has had this bad habit of fighting less frequently than champions of yesteryear who were in the twilight of their careers... What happens when Joshua approaches 40? 18 months between each fight? Ridiculous, and it damages the sport, as others have said
Unfortunately UK weather as well as the football season means stadium fights can only be used at certain times of the year. A fighter who draws 70k minimum to a stadium isn't going to give that up and instead fight in a 20k arena. Thats a Huge amount of money left on the table.
We all know what happened when he fought in Dixie. He's always playing it safe by fighting in the UK. His star is fading.
Given has only had one title fight at a stadium that has to cater to the football season for any extended period of time, I don't see that being a very good excuse at all. Plenty of venues big enough to host him in the UK (and abroad). Also it doesn't really wash when he has cancelled a Wembley event in the past. Though I do acknowledge that his team is chasing the money. Heck he said as much at Oxford Union the other week. The problem is, this guy was a unified champion. And he was quite likely among the least active (if not thee least active) of the unified heavy weight champions in history. Winning and then holding belts brings the benefit of a higher profile, which equals more money. But he wasn't keeping up his end, i.e. fighting regularly and defending said belts. Just paying lip service to fans to keep them onside. I remember after his fight against Pulev, he announced to the crowd that he wanted a quick turn around of 3 or 4 months... 9 months later, he fought Usyk. Since that fight he has bemoaned the fact he wasn't able to fight frequently enough as champion! lol
