Ducked is being generous to Byrd. Fact of the matter is, Byrd was not on anyone's shortlist due to his abysmal ratings. Even the networks didn't want Byrd fights. No one in their right mind would have picked Byrd over Lewis at that time.
Yeah, cause there were SO MANY top lefties, that Michael Moorer was the first HW Southpaw champ....EVER. Dude...Byrd was on the networks 'do not fly' list for the most part. And being w/ King meant you had to fight to NOT give rights to King after.
Yeah this is the greatest excuses ever, but, but, but he wasn't marketable ..... Sorry bro, but it's a well known fact that Lewis didn't like lefty and avoided them like a pleague. He not only ducked Byrd, he drop a title to not fight him .... Vitali and Wladimir fight him 3 time. They also fought Sanders 2x time.
how many top HW lefties were there? Apparently there was a bunch that I missed at the time. Hey you don't like the answer, not my problem. No one wanted Byrd and/or King. You do remember who Don King was, yeah? Sanders was never a top HW. Too inconsistent.
This is straight up excuse, simple as that. We can twist the facts as much as you like, the fact is he dropped a belt and ducked Byrd. And Sanders really have a ridiculous speed and power. He was a challenge for anyone when he is in shape. And he would have been for Lewis for sure. And are you saying that Lewis fight only top Boxers? Lewis for god sake have 44 matches, there is a obvious reason he never ever fought a southpaw.
excuse? Excuse for what? Byrd had very little chance to beat LL. I didn't even like Lewis. I wanted Byrd to get his shot. He was just the odd man out. Yeah, Sanders has speed and power. Rankings aren't based on speed and power. Are you just going to ignore the fact that none of the networks cared for showing a Byrd? Who were all these top lefties when Lewis was boxing? Care to name all these lefties he ducked?
I would have to make Lennox the odds on favorite at this time. I was impressed with Usyk against Joshua, but I need to see more before I would say he could beat Lennox Lewis.
It's not about the chance, but the thing is he never fought one. And yeah a duck is a duck, no matter how you try to describe it. If Joshua was to duck anyone and trash a belt for it, people will be all over him. As far as the networks and so on, this to me is the next excuse. Is there any official statement or we are just making excses? And this is not a knock on Lewis, but he obviously have problem with "lefty" and just avoided them like plague, simple as that. That doesn't mean Usyk will beat him or anything, but the facts still stand. And you are again talk about ranking, but are all the fighters Lewis fought was highly ranked? Sanders was in the conversation for a fight with Lewis, at some point, but nothing more than that. Still Sanders was a top HW for that time, and both started their pro career at 89.
Are you going to tell me all these top rated Lefties LL avoided? No, Sanders wasn't in real talks to fight Lewis. He never put any big wins together to garner talks. And again, he was NOT really a top HW since his status as a top HW was based on one win, beating Wlad K. Corey did little to nothing before AND after the Wlad fights.
Sanders had some decent wins, his resume was far better compared to Mavrovic or Botha. However, he was poorly managed, so he never got the rankings that other guys got for beating inferior opposition. Still, Sanders lacked really top wins until he beat Wlad. I mean, demolishing Alfred Cole, Bobby Czyz or shot Carlos DeLeon is good, as well as beating Johnny Nelson or Ross Puritty, but that's not the victories that propells you to world title shot. Mavrovic, Botha and Bean got top rankings while having atrocious resumes each, but they had good promoters. Sanders hadn't
What southpaws did Lewis duck ? Or are you pulling that out of your ass as usual ? Because Moorer didn't want those hands, Sanders lost to Rahman at the time and never ended up being mandatory and Don King literally negotiated with Lewis and gave him 1 million dollars not to fight Chris Byrd. So what southpaws did Lewis duck ? Please inform me SmachDaBum
The fact that you need to reach as high as Lewis to find a HW that Usyk isn't a sure bet against says it all.
