I feel that Usyk is invincible in CW, and hope he will soon move up at HW (challenge, glory, money). What do you think about his fight against Joseph Parker next year, supposing that Parker has not a title fight before ? Would it be 50/50 type of match ?
Hard to say right now, Usyk has a higher amateur pedigree and while we know that doesn't necessarily translate well into the pros, his professional career looks decent so far - he has solid step up for his next fight which should tell us quite a lot about him. If he wins that, let alone dominantly then I'd say Usyk could have a better chance against Parker than most heavyweights would - though even right now with a bit more weight etc Usyk would probably make a reasonable impression in heavyweight so no surprise there. We haven't seen what kind of fighter can beat either dude as professionals so it's pretty hard to speculate, given both are un-defeated pros - Parker is actually a heavyweight and has beaten higher level opposition in heavyweight (relative to what Usyk has beaten in cruiser even) he is definitely much more proven in that regard... Parker isn't the biggest heavyweight but he does hit and take hits like the bigger heavyweights though of course Usyk clearly is a very hard hitter for a cruiser. Will be interesting times, I guess it's very plausible that if Usyk wins this next fight he may try his hand at heavyweight. 2017 will be a very interesting year
HW would be more hot and competitive with him. I expect Klitschko and Povetkin will be out of game (because of age), maybe T. Fury too (lack of motivation)...But, imagine Ortiz, Wilder, Haye, Joshua, Usyk and Parker fighting each other. I will mention Pulev, maybe H. Fury and Miller, and expect some mighty amateurs coming soon (Joyce and co.)... The best HW division after Lennox Lewis, obviously...
I would be very disappointed if he moved up, honestly. David Haye and Tomasz Adamek both had the opportunity to cement ATG legacies at cruiser and put it on the map as dominant unified champions - but they both chased the money and fizzled out at heavyweight instead. Usyk picking up the baton and finishing the job they both walked away from would be great to see.
I respect your opinion, but I can not agree this time. Usyk, move up ! Joshua & co. are waiting for you... To be clear - There is noone among my friends who knows who Usyk is (the same situation with Haye/Adamek at CW). But if he move up in HW, it is quite different thing (like Haye/Adamek in HW), and lot of them will be discussing about dangerous Ukrainan with strange hair-cut.
I agree with IB, I'd prefer seeing Usyk go through a Murderer's Row at CW, imagine possibly having the scalps of Lebedev, Huck, Glowacki, Briedis, Bellew, Makabu, Kudryashov, Dorticos, Gassiev, Mchunu, McKenzie, Kucher, Shumenov, Wlodarczyk and Drozd on your resume, that would easily be CW ATG right there.:deal
CST80, Usyk would need at list 7 years to fight all of them. I would prefer to see two fights at HW (Joshua, Haye)... Something like Lennox vs Evander....
