It would seem like Byrd was starting to figure Vitali out and taking away his jab. Until you realize his shoulder was injured and he was a one armed fighter. People think Byrd looked good near the end of the fight after being dominated early. Perhaps it had something to do with Vitali losing his shoulder motion and use. Maybe?
Just got finished watching the fight again for the first time in a while. I definitely didn't see anything remotely close to "domination" early in that fight. On the contrary, I had it 3 rounds to 2 Klitschko after 5. It was plain that Klitschko couldn't land a jab to save his life though he was having some good success with right hand leads. For someone who most observers erroneously characterize a " runner" Byrd was actually walking that behemoth down much of the time. As for the injury question, if Klitschko went in knowing he was hurt, what business did he have being there to start with? Furthermore, if the injury happened during the fight, it's safe to assume it was a result of his multitudinous swings and misses. Compubox numbers show that after 9 rounds, Klitschko only landed 8 more punches in well over 200 more attempts including a paltry 9% (17-176) of his jabs !! People can say what they want about Chris Byrd but they sure can't say with a straight face that he doesn't have historic levels of courage to be walking in there against some of the monsters he went in against, knowing that he was giving up all the advantages in size and power with no equalizer for a punch.
