Boxing's stock takes another monstrosity of a hit thanks to the premier heavyweight struggling with a guy who has boxed once professionally in his life. The only thing worse than these crossover fights is when they are actually close.

Going into that 11th round, the fight was basically even. Although it finally does put the ridiculous Usyk heavyweight GOAT discussions into perspective. His age is irrelevant when he is fighting a guy who is not that much younger and has boxed once in his life. Time to hang them up.

 

Usyk was never gonna lose that fight even if he didn’t land a punch in any rounds.

Says more about the judges. Fighting washed opposition (AJ, Fury) makes him the goat? Losing (or at least getting pushed to the limit) at 40 against an ageing rookie Verhoeven keeps him in the goat discussion? Unbelievable.

Usyk looked like a 39 year old human in there tonight, he might look immortal again in his next fight.

I mean he looked past his best for sure. Coming in over his usual weight was a telling sign that something was off. Let’s not act like Usyk is a fraud.
