No wonder, Usyk doesn't likes to clinch.
At the same CW division when he was in WBSS1 best guys for clinch were Briedis ( who I think might be more effective if he had been at HW in his prime not CW despite he is small ) and Huck.
Usyk did not had wished to clinch with them. When Briedis pushed him and a bit rotated, he fall down. Imagine what had happened if real or long clinch?

A.J too isn't fighter who loves to clinch a lot , while being with decent reach and weight vs Usyk, he might use also clinch I think worse for him might be to clinch vs Fury or Briedis than vs A.J.

Usyk likes in - out fighting, where he also uses rapid angles change and dynamic high guard, sometimes switched to high– medium height guard.

While I think Usyk is skilled in clinch, this was not his bread and butter, even the same Briedis might made Chisora far more problems than Usyk if they had fought and Briedis had been in good shape.

Yeah, to maul you is more diifucult if you are heavier and there extra weight helps a lot.
Especially is this goes till standup grappling reminder not modern boxing.

Plus all Whyte was doing in that bout was covering up on the ropes looking to counter that wouldn`t work v Usyk at all.

Whatever negatives people conjure up for Usyk, his accomplishments stamp all over them.

He already out-classed Beterbiev in the amateurs.

Usyk's speed, stamina and movement were three of his greatest assets up at HW but the criticisms of him ''not possessing the power and size'' at that weight have obviously got to him which I think is exactly what some of his detractors wanted to be honest. Still find it weird how anyone could dislike Usyk and want to see a fighter like him who literally embodies everything that's right and great about the sport both in and out of the ring fail. Shame on you people.. shame on you.

This is like Pauli Malignaggi gaining 10-15 lbs and telling the middleweights to watch out.

If Usyk actually weighs 230 on fight night he will be that weight through choice, for a reason, he is a wise old campaigner.

I am a little confused. His cat like agility is what wins him fights.

I have no high expectations of him at heavyweight and always thought he would prod, peck and Zaghe his way to points victories against the bigger boys. Thats why I wasn't surprised he took so long to take out Chazz and never thought he would knock out Chisora. Just not how he ever won fights, not in am's or cruiser.

Maybe they know who they are targeting next and feel the extra weight is beneficial.

    Hahaha

But seriously, the extra weight does not look good on Usyk.

This is a good take on it IMO. That gradual accumulation of points drawn from his stamina advantages in the late rounds, wins him fights. A points win is a win. And basically, at this stage he doesn't need to generate highlight reel KOs to gain a following ... a win against a top tier opponent where he's outclassed him and never looked to be in much danger himself, is all he needs.

Looking forward to seeing what happens with Usyk. Usyk and Wilder are almost complete opposites but they have their own somewhat unique attributes in play within the division ATM which makes them especially interesting.

Usyk is training with kettlebells, old school style. I don't think many of you guys know just how strong it makes your body.

Usyk is on heavy decline, from long time now. His speed, stamina, movement + his reflexes are shot, and far far far from what they used to be. And he gain weight, which will make him even worst in this department.
Usyk has no chance. You either switch early to HW or you dont do it at all, or you do it and fail big time, as he will do.

I'm not happy about him bulking up. Sure it might increase his power, strength and punch resistance but it will detract from all his other attributes that would serve him so well up at HW against those big lumbering oafs.
