I don't see Gassiev winning it tbh. I think Briedis was the much tougher matchup for Usyk and he handled it pretty well although it was a close fight. Gassiev isn't able to outbox and outpoint Usyk, he has to try to go all in at the inside and i doubt Usyk will fight a brawl here.

Gassiev is "only" +140 at the betting market right now so bookmakers are taking this as a 60/40 fight favoring Usyk, i think Usyk is the much bigger fav here. Briedis was prized +400 and higher.

I doubt he will lose more than 2 or 3 rounds to Gassiev.

    Thoughts?!

I think if Usyk fights like he did against Briedis he will get beat. Gassiev is the real deal and punches hard and goes to the body. If he can cut the ring off on Usyk then Usyk will be in a world of trouble. Usyk can win this fight but he will have to get on his bike for a full 12 rounds to do it. He can't go to war with Gassiev.

Gassiev for the win. Don't think Usyk can take his best shots and Usyk has been hit easily before.

I doubt Gassiev hits MUCH(!) harder than Briedis. He only has tw He is more accurate and loves to work to the body but on the other side he never faced an agile and fast moving opponent like Usyk. Gassiev is too one-dimensional imo, he has no plan b, he isn't able to outpoint a guy like Usyk. Gassiev needed 12 rounds to stop a guy like Dorticos who has almost NO defense and also is a brawler type of a boxer. And apart from the stoppage it was a close fight.

My heart says Usyk, as he's clearly the superior boxer.

But my gut says, I've underestimated Gassiev before, time to learn from my mistakes!

Either way, it's the most anticipated, edge of your pants, fight of the year for me.

agreed, I think Briedis is considerably better than Gassiev and imo Usyk already won the WBSS the moment he beat Briedis, Gassiev has the power but Usyk can comfortably outbox him

Gassiev barely beat Lebedev, a fairly stationary but crafty southpaw, Usyk is incredibly crafty, far more elusive and anything but stationary. Usyk shuts him out 12 zip, in a complete and total domination. Like Loma, Usyk has gears, depending on his opposition, and he's going to be stuck in the top one for this one, partially out of necessity.

Usyk will beat Gassiev, with some difficulty.

I was just going to post pretty much the same thing. Gassiev was really struggling with Lebedev.

Gassiev could probably have stopped Dorticos early but he decided to take no risks since Dorticos can punch a bit. Eventually he stopped him when he wanted to. Expecting very different Gassiev against Usyk.

It will be the hardest fight of Usyk's career. And if he tries not just to win but to please the fans as well (playing into Gassiev's game plan) there might be problems for Usyk.
Thankfully, Gvozdyk, for example, who was of the sparring partners for Usyk this time, has mentioned this problem (that Usyk tries to please the fans, fighting in a special way) several times already in his interviews, and, I'm sure, talked about it with Usyk personally.

i can't imagine anything about fighting Gassiev being comfortable. But i fancy Usyk to take this as long as he boxes his fight and keeps Gassiev on the outside

    You're right, but-

1: Lebedev is deceptively good. He doesn't have Usyk's overall athleticism & movement, but he has great defense nonetheless, kind of like Golovkin or Spence.

2: Lebedev has a granite chin. I mean, the guy has CHEEN. We don't really know about Usyk.

Gun to my head, of course I predict Usyk, but I'm not officially calling this one.

Yeah, beating one of the toughest CWs this generation at 22 with no elite experience is definitely a sign that Gassiev of 2 years more elite wins later can't handle Usyk who's lucky to be in the final, fine logic there.
