Usyk will stay at cruiserweight only for Ward, Povetkin is possible - promoter

    Alexander Krassyuk, promoter of undisputed cruiserweight champion of the world Oleksandr Usyk, revealed the one and only reason that can make Usyk stay in the cruiserweight division.

    "We already have the list of potential opponents. The situation with potential opponents will be more clear in the next few months. But I can assure you that Usyk's next fight will be held in the heavyweight division. He already did everything he could as a cruiserweight. There is only one option that can make him stay there (for one more fight) - the fight against Andre Ward" - said Alexander Krassyuk.

    Promoter also added, that the fight against former WBA 'regular' heavyweight champion Alexander Povetkin is one of the possible options for Usyk's debut in the heavyweight division, alhough not the likeliest one.

    "We don't know how everyting will play out. There are a lot of excellent heavyweights out there. And the fight against Povetkin is possible too. But we definitely don't consider him as our first option" - said Krassyuk.

    Would be surprised if Ward came out of retirement to fight Usyk. DAZN will need to dig deep into the war chest to get Ward out of retirement to fight the much bigger and more dangerous Usyk.

    But I guess it could happen if Ward wanted it. With HBO gone and Showtime affiliated with Haymon who had beef with Roc Nation, DAZN seems the best platform for the fight. DAZN has plenty of cash to throw though I doubt they'll spend huge money on Ward. Ward after seeing how much Canelo got, will have ridiculous financial demands and unless DAZN can secure him for more than just Usyk, perhaps a GGG fight as well, then I can't see DAZN wanting to sign him.

    The Povetkin fight is a no brainer in my opinion. Ukraine vs Russia right now would have huge national interest in both their countries due to the conflict. Both fighters are working with Hearn, so they have Hearn to bring both sides together. Povetkin wins, he gets an awesome win to retire on, Usyk wins he immediately gets ranked highly by everyone and doesn't have to face a giant super heavy to do it.

    But I think both take an easier fight in the interim. Povetkin wants only 2 more fights, maybe the winner of Miller/Dinu to pick up a belt then a huge fight in Russia vs Usyk.

    Krassuk is scared Usyk will impregnate his wife, that why he's trying to set up Ward the nutcracker fight.

    Ward went life and death with kovalev, don’t see how he would survive vs USyk.

    In a way this would be like Rigo-Loma. A skilled classic technician vs a bigger matrix.

    Lol Ward aint fighting USyk, Usyk should move up and stop wasting his career at cruiser. Time to beat up the big plodders!

    I think Usyk will fight some guy from UK next. Maybe Chisora or Whyte. In the perect scenario, Usyk would face Whyte - Chisora winner next and Povekin would face a loser of that fight in the same card in April. Then in September the winners (likely Usyk and Povetkin) would face each other.
