Tonight very good shape and shots from Usyk but...not devastating. Can this be a limit for him in the HWs?
We really need to see him try to adapt against a taller heavy that isn't slow. Jab becomes much less effective against a taller fighter, especially when the stances are opposite.
Wilder needs distance and a lot of it to get leverage into his punches. He doesnt carry power in short and close-up punches. That is Usyk territory. He closed the gap on Witherspoon and just kept turning him to keep him confused. It is a boring way to win fights but he would school most of these guys.
Or any hard hitting HW. If he cant keep these guys honest they're going to walk through his shots and his chin is going to get tested. If I have to take 2 to land 1 against a guy who I believe cant hurt me never mind put my lights out im going to take that chance.
dude gtfoh with that nonsense. DW hits hard asf! at any range. He can hurt someone badly with a short shot just as he does his long leveraged shots.
Fighting smart doens't always brings fans. Hard to look good against a slumbering giant, you can't KO. But as I stated in another post,, this should prove he isn't on Holy's level when moving up to HW. 208lb Holy knew how to box, but decided to bang out the old guards of Tillsi, Thomas & Dokes...all within a year of his last CW fight. Plenty of time for Usyk to show and improve. But until, no comparison to Holy's debut at Heavy. None whatsoever.
I'm very much convinced that Usyk is the best heavyweight on the planet. He toyed with Witherspoon. It was actually sad to watch, felt bad for Witherspoon. But if Witherspoon went another 1-3 rounds, he would have been counted out. Usyk did whatever he wanted tonight. Against a faded and out-of-shape opponent, true, but also a 6' 4", 240 pound guy with some pop who is not a joke. It was a wipeout. I'm not saying Usyk is ready for a title bout today (also not going to say he's not ready for one at HW), but this fight went as well as it could have gone. You don't have to knock people out to win fights.
It's an intriguing fight. Usyk will have to walk (dance?) a tightrope for 12 rounds. I see it as a 50/50 fight.
That worked on Witherspoon because he was flat footed, looked like he had shorter arms, was tubby and old.
Witherspoon is nearly 39 Years old and a very unfit opponent who is ranked around 70 in the World. ....people are getting a little carried away I think.!!!
