Yeah I said the same thing about Whyte’s planned tactic in the General. If he tried that he’d play right into Usyk’s hands and get knocked out. I said though that Tibbs is a smart trainer and he wouldn’t allow Whyte to box like that. He’d have Whyte trying to double and triple up on the jab and box on the back foot. I can almost certainly envisage Whyte employing the same spoiler tactics as Bellew early on but also trying to hold as much as possible and put his weight onto Usyk, firing at the body at every opportunity inside. Aside from sparking Usyk out with a clean punch, the way to beat him is to clearly take his legs from him. Good luck doing that though...
I agree. I haven’t seen one fighter have any success with trying to hold and clinch him. Same with Loma. They don’t let you clinch and they maintain a high work rate with lots of movement and high punch output. I could see him chipping away and dismantling Whyte, stopping him with a combination of well timed shots and sheer exhaustion.
