Usyk cleaned out the toughest division in boxing. Then beat AJ in the first fight clean. Very fast fighter. Very technical fighter. But you could make the argument that his heart wasn't fully tested. I think the AJ rematch showed he passed that test with flying colors. The man has a lions heart. We saw in round 9 Usyk had by far the worst round of his career. Was a little bit fatigued and was hurt pretty bad by a much larger and naturally stronger man. But did not go down or run away. Survived the round. And then in the very next round came out, stood toe to toe and banged, throwing bombs against a much bigger and stronger man. Didn't bother to dance around the ring or worry about optimal footwork. Just went and ****ing had it with him. If there were any questions about his heart, there are no more. This content is protected
Usyk's grit and heart was already tested prior when he fought Mairis Breidis. But the AJ rematch definitely highlighted his toughness and willingness to engage more when pushed to the edge.
If he didn't have heart someone would of exposed his lack of it already, he's fought some quality opposition at Cruiser and Heavyweight and excelled at everything he's challenged himself with, Olympic gold, undisputed Cruiserweight champion, unified heavyweight champion, you don't consistently excel like that for over a decade if you lack inner strength. Even if he loses to Fury it won't be because he lacks heart.
Usyks ‘heart’ was never in question. He certainly didn’t need fights with Joshua to prove anything, as he had already proved it when he cleaned out the CW division against some fighters who were much better skilled than Joshua.
AJ is an overrated hype job. Tye heavyweight division is top three the weakest less talented division in boxing, Usyk was arguably KOd witha body shot by a contender, an MMA fighter arguably beat the best HW fighter today, let that sink in.
He was impeccable regarding his heart until he was hit on the belt line by Dubois, iam not certain if it was low enough to be illegal but 10000 percent he was rolling around holding his nuts, anyone with eyes could see he was not hit on his nuts, it’s a minor blemish but it was clear as day. To me it doesn’t display lack of heart but it displays dishonesty as clear as day, never expected that from him. He has heart and that was displayed when he decided to stay and fight for his country in the conflict, I respect that not many have that in them. Nobody can ever produce evidence that he did something different, possibly illegal because of the belt line grey area but he was not hit in the nuts. He beats fury though Parker or Hrgovic are his worst match up’s
I actually didn't think AJ landed much clean on Usyk in that Round 9. He was definitely under pressure but I didn't think he was particularly hurt. I was super impressed by how he came out in Round 10 and raised the tempo again though.
I have a bit of fun with the comments about usyk. But he's a class act and I saw him knock out tony below live for which I think he should get mbe. Now saying that I thought he took the crying to hopkins level against dubois. I do wonder what happens if someone doesn't back off and continues to attack the body when he starts flagging to the ref.
