If he wins the WSSB cruiserweight tournament will it be enough for Usyk to get a shot at the heavyweight title or will he have to fight at least one ranked heavyweight? I go for the immediate match assuming Usyk wins. ( My guess is that the final will be Usyk vs Dorticos BTW )
He's ready now but will likely take the Holyfield path & get a couple of fights under his belt in the division first. Joshua's schedule, if he keeps winning, is pretty much set for 2018. Usyk needs to take the fights that will best prepare him for a shot in 2019. Povetkin would make a good dance partner if he wants to prepare himself to win. It's not like Povetkin will be getting a shot in 2018 either.
Beat 1 or 2 journeymen to give him time to grow and adjust to the weight. Then maybe go for whoever has the WBA regular belt that should be an easy win and will bring a belt of sorts. Should at the very least give him a good ranking, should he need to get a mandatory position. An old Povetkin would be a good fight if Povetkin is still active. Maybe Haye as Haye is another small heavyweight who he could beat, would also expose him to the UK market. Maybe Hughie Fury too if he wants UK exposure.
He's ready for it now, it doesn't matter though because he won't get it, AJ would rather try his hand against higher profile easier to beat fighters with less talent. Gassiev will destroy Dorticos by the way.
Going from CW directly to Joshua would be a mistake. Joshua has like 50 lb of lean muscle on Usyk. Usyk should take some time to get used to HW.
Usyk weighed 207 on the night against Michael Hunter and 208 for Mchunu, but he was a little heavier when he fought up at SHW in the WSB. His weight is announced here at 96.1kgs (if my ears are hearing it correctly that is) and according to Google that = 211.8642. This content is protected
Uysk beats Joshua. Juice moves like a stiff ass robot, Uysk is like water. That's why Wilder beats oj as well
If Cunningham can floor Fury(styles make fights I know) Uysk can very well do damage to the heavyweights
Usyk definitely needs a fight at heavy first. Can't go from fighting 6'3 200 lbs guys to 6'6 250 lbs guy.
You assume Joshua is going to stay at 250. Fighters tend to add weight as they age, and he's already pushing too heavy. In two years from now, assuming he tomoao can's Wilder, Joshua could be 260.
AJ is a physical beast and his sheer size and power presents great danger to Usyk. That said, Usyk is a special talent and if anyone at CW could pull it off it's him. 6'5'', 260lb man mountain and savage puncher Aslanbek Makhmudov This content is protected Makhmudov vs Brechlin This content is protected 6'6'', 225-240 (rough guess) man mountain and big puncher Filip Hrgovic 3 year old HL so it's not the best This content is protected This is the third Cuban SHW Hrgovic has stopped in the last 3 or so years IIRC so he can bang a little bit This content is protected Hrgovic vs Brechlin This content is protected Usyk vs Brechlin https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=pnnTf2-RDi4
Hrgovic, I think is the next champion. Skilled, big, powerful, can take a punch as well as any I've seen in the AM's, and hungry.
