The United States still has the finest and most sophisticated boxing infrastructure in the world compared to any other country besides maybe Britain. Yank boxers are elite and talented, but you cant dominate a sport that is global, boxing truly is a global sport now, no one nation actually dominates it besides maybe the Brits?

The British aren't dominating any more than any other country.

I'd say that the elite and talented boxers are going to be in the lighter weight divisions e.g. Crawford, Garcia. If we do see another great USA heavyweight, he'll probably come up from LHW or middleweight a la Byrd / Holyfield. Although, if Ruiz gets in top shape and trains hard he probably will up end a couple of titlists.

How come Europe has elite fighters at all when the, by far, most popular sport is football? A sport that any sized person can play and is way easier to make a living of.

Wouldn't all elite talent in Europe be held up in football if your argument is valid?

Not really. The question is not where have all the great European heavyweights gone but what happened to the great American heavyweights. Football/ soccer has pretty much remained the same for generations. However, in the USA a lot of that has changed. Once upon a time somebody had to have an IQ above room temperature to be a scholar athlete, which is the gateway to professional grid iron football. Nowadays, a functional moron can go to college and play football. Same with basketball. Plus, boxing has only recently made its way back to broadcast television. Boxing just hasn't been a primary sport for a while. If Ali was a youngster these days, he'd probably be an NFL linebacker instead of a boxer.

I'll venture a guess that if colleges became more stringent on their admissions for student athletes we would see a dramatic uptick in good heavyweights coming from the USA.

lol you probably have noodle arms, though. If that juiced up jock clown and his boyfriend tried laying their hands on me, and I can assure you they wouldn't, they'd wind up drinking their dinner through a straw for the next six months.

So all large men in America go to college? I had a totally contradicting picture actually.

I think total inactivity is a way bigger factor hidering the heavies than school and American football or basketball.

The big guys who show talent athletically are "recruited" into various colleges. In the USA college sports are a multibillion dollar business.

It's somewhat the same reason there are hundreds of great female soccer players produced in the USA while the male soccer program produces maybe a dozen at best ( Title 9 ).
