I think your last sentence sums it up. If Usyk's opponents under-perform (as did Joshua) then it might well have the unfortunate side-effect of your frustrations over this being aimed at Usyk. But, as you also seem to be suggesting that there is little room to doubt Usyk's capabilities, it's probably time to redirect these at his upcoming and potential opponents. Usyk is the real deal and it's up to his competition to bring something to the table that he will find tougher to handle and, in turn, perhaps show us more of what he's got.
The only way this frustrates you to watch is if you only care about the knock out. If that's the case you should most likely watch UFC.
Hmm... My take on listening to his interviews is that he isn't against KOs per se, if they come they come. But he doesn't go looking for them. There is more than one way to dominate an opponent. He seems more than satisfied to win a fight clearly on the score cards on the road by a demonstration of his superior skill set. I think he has said before that it's not his objective to ever actually hurt his opponent, and he looked genuinely concerned when he flatlined Bellew. I see him as a pure sportsman in that sense. I'm not sure I would call his style boring either.
So based on what I can gather you’re frustrated that he doesn’t punch hard enough and that he doesn’t look for the KO. The man has great boxing skills and mastery of the sweet science and is rarely boring to watch. What more do you want him to do exactly?
When I first saw Usyk in the WSB I did find his style slightly bizzare and off putting and I couldn't explain why.. But the more I watched him through the pro's the more this feeling faded and turned to sheer appreciation. His performance against Joshua was a masterclass!
I love watching Usyk. I hope when he beats Joshua again and unifies the WBC belt he does a brief bum-of-the-month tour.
You are no fan of the sweet science if you find Usyk boring. I get enjoyment watching the man demonstrate his skills. Watching his opponents try to mount an attack and end getting picked apart time after time. Beautiful to watch.
I can see it now. Usyk's bum of the month tour 2023 dates: Jan: Yoka Feb: Helenius March: Martin April: Bermaine Stiverne, who has worked spiritually, mentally, personally and physically to ready himself. Having gone to the mountains, the desert, dieted, living a life of sacrifice and deprivation to mold himself into a fighting machine. Boxing a thousand rounds, running hundreds of miles and working his body into the greatest shape of his career in pursuit of the world heavyweight title. Usyk knocks him clean out and out of the ring, round one. Usyk Retires having bested Wilder's best Career win.
With the state of the heavyweight division, his tour could be Parker, Ruiz, Dubios... He could have a bum of the month and still be fighting the best.
