Any criteria you like. Resume of opponent...perceived quality of opponent...dominance of victory... great challenge of victory...how you see it. For me, something like... Fury I Briedis Joshua I Dubois Fury II Joshua II Gassiev Hunter Bellew Chisora
Oleksandr USYK with 23 professional fights probably has a Goat Resume with 23 fights. Top 10 wins: 1. Fury 1 2. AJ 1 3. Briedls 4. Gassiev 5. Fury 2 6. Dubois 7. AJ 2 8. Bellew 9. Huck 10. Chisora Top 10 opponents: 1. Fury 2. AJ 3. Gassiev 4. Briedls 5. Dubois 6. Bellew 7. Huck 8. Hunter 9. Glowacki 10. Witherspoon
Briedis is most skilled and high quality boxer in that list and he was still not a P4P boxer, sadly. Usyk had a close fight and media/politics were against Briedis in his hometown.
Do you mean you feel they robbed him? I remember thinking Usyked won a close clear fight but you could argue a draw at best? Like a lennox vs mercer or floyd vs maidana 1 type win.
I would put Mchunu in there instead of Chisora. Mchunu went on to beat: Oosthuizen, Lebedev, Tishchenko, and arguably Makabu. Heck, not even arguably. My dude got robbed blind that night.
No, Usyk won, but the fact that Media/politics were against homefighter in both Briedis and Gassiev fight was very strange. They could easily give that win to Briedis and there would be no problem in the boxing world.
If we're talking strictly how the opponents were rated at the time and not due to hindsight like Dubois for example...... 1. Fury 1 2. AJ 1 3. Gassiev 4. Briedis 5. Fury 2 6. AJ 2 7. Bellew 8. Glowacki 9. Chisora 10. Dubois I'm rating Dubois as the lowest because at the time he was coming off being floored 3 times by a Cruiserweight and he was considered a very undeserving mandatory challenger. But if you're taking into account what Dubois has achieved with hindsight he'd be rated considerably higher and my list would look similar to this..... 1. Fury 1 2. AJ 1 3. Briedis 4. Gassiev 5. Fury 2 6. Dubois 7. AJ 2 8. Bellew 9. Glowacki 10. Chisora
1- Fury I 2- Joshua I 3- Fury II 4- Joshua II 5- Bellew 6- Gassiev 7- Dubois 8- Briedis 9- Chisora 10- Hunter
1. Fury 1 2. Joshua 1 3. Breidis 4. Joshua 2 5. Fury 2 6. Gassiev 7. Hunter 8. Dubois (who has subsequently improved, to be fair, so if Usyk beats him again, i will rank Dubois 2 alot higher) 9. Glowacki 10. Chisora I actually think Breidis was his most competitive fight. You can't make any reasonable case for Joshua 1 or Fury 1 being draws: they were clear wins. Breidis fight was arguably a draw even though i think Usyk just edged it. However, in terms of "greatest" wins, you have to factor in the biased judging he had to deal with when fighting Joshua and Fury, as well as the massive height and weight disadvantages.
1. Fury 1 2. Joshua 1 3. Gassiev 4. Breidies 5. Fury 2 6. Joshua 2 7. Dubois 8. Glowacki 9. Huck 10. Chisora
Tallies so far. The list is a bit complicated because some named opponents instead of wins, and some gave two lists which I chose one from that I thought was most in the spirit, but this is pretty good. Fury 1 9 Briedis 9 Joshua 1 9 Dubois 9 Gassiev 9 Fury II 8 Joshua II 8 Chisora 8 Bellew 7 Hunter 5 Glowacki 5 Huck 3 Mchunu 1
Don't forget that Usyk was four months shy of turning 35 y/o when he won his first HW title, was 37 y/o when he became undisputed, and is about to turn 38 y/o in a few weeks So in addition to the massive/obscene physical advantages he's always giving away up at HW, fighting these giants in their backyards or on the road whilst being the B-side and having the deck stacked against him, and the kind of power these behemoths wield: AJ, Dubois, Chisora, and yes Belly can crack hard too when he wants to and obviously power is magnified when you're facing someone you're way bigger and heavier than Usyk has become undisputed at a weight class he doesn't belong in literally full of giants and savage punchers from essentially 35-38 y/o when he was already past his prime before he won his first title at the weight and his optimum fighting weight is not 220 + lbs and being that heavy coupled with age has diminished him in many departments. CW Usyk is prime Usyk fighting at his optimum weight and was more dominant. Don't get me wrpng, he's been pretty dominant at HW too as the subtly of his defence escapes many and the casuals and so often shots they thought landed and score for his opponents actually fall short, are slipped or blocked, and miss by centimetres and inches, or do not land clean So bearing that in mind, I rate his performances up at HW higher because he's way outside his natural weight whilst already being in his mid 30s by the time he first won a belt up there. As I've been saying for a long time, long before he moved up to HW, you stick prime Usyk in there with all these giants and he would cause them absolute nightmares, even more than he has, with his speed, movement, reaction times, accuracy, counter punching, ring IQ, work rate etc. and this significantly slower and diminished version has already caused them enough as it is and established himself as the greatest HW of the era
Yes, except Breidis above Hunter ... All Hunter has a claim to is the WBA "gold" belt. Whatever that is
