Everyone was saying that usyk has no power, but it you look at his fights you can clearly see he is a very formidable, accurate and sneaky puncher. He stopped a tough huck, koed bellew, hurt chisora, hurt joshua bad twice, koed dubois with a jab and let's be honest stopped fury in the ninth. I think a lot of guys underestimate his power and you can clearly see there reaction when they get punched for the first time, like shi....t . Hail to usyk the emperor
It's not just the power I think - it's shot selection, quality AND quantity of offense, and the fact the oppent can't see 'em coming especially in some of the more fluid combinations.
Though he can hit, Usyk’s style obviously means he isn’t often set to punch with max. leverage. However, the potential is always there (sometimes realised) for Olek to max. it out and punch somewhat harder than he does on average. In respect of punching more purposefully (with some necessary sacrifices made in respect of his usual mobility and evasiveness), I think he made quite a statement last time out in his fight against Fury. I also think Usyk gave us a preview in the Dubois fight of him looking to punch with badder intentions. That big left he hit Fury with in round 9 was a terrific shot - I haven’t seen a head twist nor a face contort like that aside from the OTT choreography and facial rubberising in the Rocky movies. Lol. Rumour has it that during the pre fight instructions, Usyk said to Fury “Don’t be afraid Tyson, I must beat you but I will not break you…just yet”.
I have always subscribed to this. For years I tried to explain to casuals that Fury could hit, but as a scientific boxer, he chooses not to, and I was ridiculed for it. I even made a thread in which I said Wilder only hits a little harder than Fury, and was super ridiculed. The Fury-Wilder II happened. Casual fans just did not get that Wilder generates power by throwing a highly telegraphed-fully extended right, whereas Fury in his early years had a take-what-you-get style that had a premium on not getting hit. Same thing with Uysk. He leaves nothing for his opponent, and only starts hitting his opponent with bad intentions when he has got the man thoroughly beat. The one exception was Fury, where he knew he had to do something dramatic. But you can't look at the 9th of the Fury fight or the 10th of the second Joshua fight or the 7th of the Chisora fight or the 12th of the Hunter fight or the Dubois stoppage and not understand that he has power. He has rocked EVERY heavyweight he has been in with.
