I’m baffled at the support for Korobov. He has achieved nothing as a pro ....and has looked awful in his fights...and was highly touted only by those poor judges of boxing who automatically assumed he hold be a top pro as a result of him being a successful amateur. Rubbish.
Like I said, he's not a bad fighter, it's just that he's talking like he's an undefeated badass. If people are avoiding him, it's probably cause they don't even know who he is. Aside from Uzcategui.
He has fought no one of relevance since the Lee loss, unless you count what remained of Brian Vera. If you want a shot earn it in the ring. There a certainly some top ten fighters that aren't names that he could get in the ring with until then he has little claim to a title shot.
Oh so true! I have felt the same way for years now. Every now and then again, Korobov opens his mouth to no avail. Then i look up boxrec to see if hes been up to anything and... well he hasn't. Had a decent 2016 which got him a proposed shot at Ramirez. That fell though and Korobov did not fight in 2017 at all. Now he has only fought once this year. He needs to fight more often. I dont get why fighters in his position just dont go after the small club shows. The pay is **** but it creates exposure. There have been fighters who have greatly benefited from this strategy.
It’s a real shame about Korobov. Easily one of the most talented guys in and around his weight division. I think he would give Charlo fits, beat Jacobs, Canelo. Would be a hell of a fight with GGG. He’s got a solid chin and excellent boxing brain with decent power. People are asking why he hasn’t been active, which is entirely his frustration - he can’t get the fights. After losing to Lee, he is president of the “who needs him” club. Not a big draw, with a loss on his ledger, and a major upset risk. It’s sad to see some boxing fans subscribing to that line of thought too - “he lost, Lee Ko’d him, he’s got no chance” etc etc. Fighters lose - and especially when getting wiped out with one punch. He was out boxing an excellent boxer in Andy Lee, but lees right hook has always been an equaliser. Now his career is on the shelf cos apparently promoters know he is high risk/low reward, and that some fans just don’t care cos he has an L on his ledger. He would be such an asset to the already deep pool at MW and up at SMW too. The WBSS would’ve been a perfect platform, but he was even overlooked for that after lobbying hard to be included.
His pro career by and large has been a disappointment, a combination of bad management and too many underwhelming performances. He does have a point with Uzcategui, however. You'd think Uzi would want to address that to show how much he's grown since their first fight.
