    ROUND 1 -

    1. Muhammad Ali vs. Jersey Joe Walcott - Ali SD15
Walcott's awkward style perplexes Ali thoroughly. Walcott wins a flash KD in round two, before Ali can settle into his rhythm. In round 14, as Ali appears confident, Walcott sends him to the canvas again. Difficult fight to score - Ali lands the bulk of the shots but Walcott deals the bulk of the damage. Ali's workrate and star-power win him a razor-thin split decision.

    2. Joe Frazier vs. Donovan "Razor" Ruddock - Ruddock TKO8
Frazier leads on two scorecards going into round 8 when one too many Smashes lands directly on his chin, sending him to the canvas. Frazier up at 9, but repeated, unanswered punishment incites a referre stoppage. Fans of Frazier protest that he wasn't hurt, but referee defends his decision to the grave. (My big upset pick :D )

    3. Mike Tyson vs. Earnie Shavers - Tyson KO1
Tyson has a granite chin, accuracy, and superb defense. Shavers has a glass chin and leaky defense. Easy night for Iron Mike.

    4. Larry Holmes vs. Jack Johnson - Holmes UD15
Round one consists of a wrestling match that takes the referee two and a half minutes to seperate. Holmes baffles Johnson through the bulk of the fight with his jab and footwork. Around round 13 Johnson realizes he cannot allow the fight to go the distance and goes for broke - Holmes responds with several swift uppercuts on the inside. At 1:39 of round 15 Johnson lands a perfect overhand right that sends Holmes crashing to the canvas, but Holmes staggers to his feet, beats the count, and hands on for the rest of the round.

    5. George Foreman vs. Wladimir Klitschko - Foreman KO3
Foreman charges forward and proceeds to swing for the fences. Klitschko clinches, only to be forced back into the killing zone and bombarded again. Klitschko down twice in round two, three times in round three.

    6. Rocky Marciano vs. Shannon Briggs - Marciano KO8
Briggs is up on two of three scorecards when a final Marciano right hand sends him down for the count. Briggs' size + power allowed him to bomb and manhandle Marciano until accumulation of damage stopped him.

    7. Lennox Lewis vs. Ron Lyle - Lewis UD15
Fight is a brawl for the first five rounds, with Lewis down in the fifth. After the knockdown Lewis falls back on his jab and sweeps the remainder of the rounds.

    8. Sonny Liston vs. Joe Louis - Liston KO7
FOTY candidate. Both come forward and trade bombs for the first five rounds. By the sixth, Louis appears exhausted after being continuously manhandled in the clinches by the seemingly much stronger Liston. Louis, trying to conserve energy so he can dominate the championship rounds, releases himself from a clinch and steps back - Liston capitalizes on the opportunity to bomb him out. Horrific beatdown in the second half of round six sends Louis to the canvas twice, he staggers into his corner after the bell. First punch of the seventh round is a big right from Liston that sends Louis down for good.

    9. Evander Holyfield vs. Ken Norton - Holyfield TKO4
Holyfield walks down Norton and shatters him. Norton down once in the third and twice the fourth, prompting a referee stoppage with Norton propped up by the ropes enduring a prolonged Holyfield assault.

    10. Riddick Bowe vs. Jack Dempsey - Bowe TKO4
David versus Goliath for four rounds - Goliath sends him down three times in the fourth for a referee stoppage. Every Marciano bomb is answered by an even bigger bomb until attrition finishes the Manassa Mauler.

    ROUND 2 -

    A) Muhammad Ali vs. Riddick Bowe - Bowe DQ8
Nightmare of a fight to referee. Bowe chases Ali around the ring for the first seven rounds, with Ali clinching behind the head every time Bowe goes to work. Ali, after receiving no less than five warnings, is warned for the final time at the end of round seven. Ali is disqualified for holding behind the head and repeated rabbit punching at the start of round eight.

    B) Donovan "Razor" Ruddock vs. Evander Holyfield - Holyfield UD15
FOTY candidate. Holyfield-Bowe I all over again, with Ruddock leading through the tenth. Superior late-fight stamina wins Holyfield the majority of the championship rounds. All three judges score a close fight for the Real Deal.

    C) Mike Tyson vs. Sonny Liston - Tyson UD15
PANDEMONIUM at both the press conference and ringside. The "Big Bad Bear" dominates the early rounds with his bulk and prodiguous inside strength. Tyson utilizes accurate combinations to keep Liston honest until he gets his break, which comes in the seventh. Liston, sensing an opportunity to put the Iron One away, unleashes a combination that would've killed Floyd Patterson's entire family - only to land nothing. Tyson, ala the Reggie Gross fight, ducks and slips over a dozen punches, before coming back up with a rocket launcher of a left hook that lands with pinpoint accuracy. Liston never settles back into his rhythm, and Tyson dominates the rest of the fight.

    D) Larry Holmes vs. Lennox Lewis - Holmes MD15
Straight-up jabfest for fifteen rounds, with Holmes' superior speed edging the scorecards. Holmes dominates the inside game with uppercuts and ultimately wins the decision.

    E) George Foreman vs. Rocky Marciano - Foreman KO3
"Jesus Christ", says the announcer. "Who would've guessed that the Rock from Brockton would end up....rubble?"

    ROUND 3 -

Riddick Bowe vs. George Foreman - Foreman TKO8
WAR. Bowe tries to get inside, but Foreman pushes him back into bombing range every time he gets close. The audience is in awe of two truly granite chins when Bowe is stopped on his feet in the eighth, gassed from the sheer exertion of his battle with Big George.

Evander Holyfield vs. Larry Holmes - Holmes UD15
Cat and mouse. Larry wins the majority of the rounds with his jab, but also uses the uppercut inside. Evander's heart and chin win him several rounds on workrate and aggression, but he ultimately plays the bull to Holmes' matador.

Mike Tyson vs. Jim Jeffries - Tyson KO6
"This guy wasn't even in the tournament earlier!", Tyson tells Rooney. Tyson is manhandled in round one. After that embaressment, he comes out of his corner in round two intent on finishing his man - he exploits holes in Jeffries' defence until a bloodied, discouraged Jeffries hits the floor in round six. Jeffries later remarks that Tyson's defence, accuracy, and combination punching - unlike anything he had ever seen - confused him.

    ROUND 4 -

George Foreman vs. Larry Holmes - Holmes SD15
Boring fight. Foreman dominates up through round nine, where he gasses out and Holmes takes over. Holmes sweeps the championship rounds, but misses out on the UD because of Foreman's earlier dominance.

FINAL FIGHT - WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPIONSHIP

Mike Tyson vs. Larry Holmes - Tyson KO6
Oh dear! Havn't we seen this before... :D Holmes sticks and moves while Tyson stalks him. Tyson finally lands a left hook at the start of the sixth to send Holmes to the canvas. Holmes is up at 8, but clearly hurt. He survives for another thirty seconds before a double right hook ( :D ) sends him down again. This time he does the Berbick dance.

WORLD HEAVYWEIGHT CHAMPION - "IRON" MIKE TYSON!
    - Tyson dedicates his hard-won title to his late "father" and mentor, Cus D'Amato

WOW! I did not expect Tyson to win :D Looking back, he avoided all of the guys that I would've picked to beat him. He had a pretty easy run through the tournament.

PS - Who's going to be the first to call me out for having Ali lose by DQ?

    Okay, time to finish up-

Frazier SD 15 Ali- already gave Ali the nod in a difficult stylistic match-up against Walcott, and gave him the benefit of the doubt in a razor thin one against Dempsey, Frazier beat him decisively when he was close to his best, peak-for-peak is more or less a coin toss in my view, I'll give Joe the nod in this instance

    Final
Joe Louis UD 15 Joe Frazier- Louis jumps out to an early lead, maybe a knockdown or two in the first and/or second round, Frazier comes on and makes it a war, wins many of the subsequent rounds, but Louis' superior offensive variety and repertoire allows him to give a touch better than he takes and secure a close, but clear-cut victory

As such, Louis claims the title of tournament champion at the end of this fictitious tourney.

Jeffries only has to fight two fights, actually.

The winner of (Tyson/Shavers + Liston/Louis) in round 3, and then he seems to get a bye from round 4 and goes straight into the title fight.

Tyson-Jeffries is a common argument here on the Classic forums, I wonder if he was situated in the same bracket for a reason? :D

Jeffries basically only has to fight one from Tyson/Liston/Louis (because it's a very slim chance Shavers makes it past Tyson, much less Tyson AND the winner of Liston/Louis) and then he's in the championship fight.

Jeffries only has to fight two to win - any other contender has to win four.

I didnt have to be Jeffries, In fact it could have been anybody from history, but I chose Jeffries sort of last minute only so that none of the guys in the original tourney gets a bye.

    BTW Marciano Frazier,

I didnt base the criteria of picking only ATGs in the tourney otherwise Wlad Klitschko, Ron Lyle, Earnie Shavers, Razor Ruddock and Shannon Briggs would not be there. I tried making this as interseting as possible by creating stylistic match ups and even money fights. (for the most part).

    Title: Vacant

    Round 1

    1.
    This content is protected
: Ali struggles throughout trying to establish rhythm. Though he's picked up a few rounds he's not winning them clean. Walcott scores a flash KD in the 9th round. Ali gets up and begins to plant his feet a little more and scores well with his lead right. After hurting Walcott in the 13th he assumes control in the 14th and 15th and gets the nod. Ali MD 15.

    2.
    This content is protected
: Ruddock starts out fast and establishes a lead via a healthy jab, jab, smash, right hand combo. Frazier while taking punishment works the body vigorously and begins to even up the cards. Ruddock drops him in the 8th round Frazier gets up clearly hurt and is saved by the bell. Joe recovers the next round and continues to press. Frazier's bodywork halts Ruddock's workrate as he is unable to finish off Joe. In round 14 Joe lands a series of double left hooks (first body then head) unanswered the ref halts the bout. Frazier TKO 14

    3.
    This content is protected
: Tyson comes out aggressive and blitzes Earnie before he can land his patented Right Hand. Tyson KO1

    4.
    This content is protected
: Ugly fight. Holmes feeling uncomfortable pressing the fight while Johnson wrestles, holds. Neither man is able to set a clear rhythm but Larry Holmes's being the busier man earns him the W. Holmes UD15.

    5.
    This content is protected
: Foreman is hurt early. Klitschko continues to fight patiently but Georges pressure and surprisingly high work rate penetrates Wlad's defense. Foreman scores big and drops Wlad in the 3rd
round. Wlad never recovers. Foreman KO4.

    6.
    This content is protected
: Briggs's imposing size and strength causes many problems for Rocky as he drops Marciano in rounds 2 and 5. His poor stamina however does him in as the Rock's work rate never remits. Rocky scores a left right combination that puts Shannon out. Rock KO9

    7.
    This content is protected
: Lewis establishes his jab early never permitting Lyle to get inside. After 6 rounds it becomes painfully obvious that its only a matter or time. By the 7th round lands a 1 2 combo that puts Lyle on the seat of his pants. Lyle does not beat the count but protests anyway. Lewis KO7

    8.
    This content is protected
Liston immediately starts out aggressive asserting himself as the dominant force. Sonny's jab (not the poster) dictates the pace but Louis counters well. Louis begins to establish his own left jab and finds success with it. By the 10th round Liston's early rounds sweep is almost evened out. Liston abandoning his jab and focusing on power shots gets caught coming in. Louis smelling blood never lets him off the hook. Louis TKO 11.

    9.
    This content is protected
: Neither man is able to set forth a momentum but Evander seems to be landing the harder blows. A clash of heads in the 6th round momentarily slows down Evander. After a slow 7th Evander resurges in the 8th and stops Ken Norton matching him 2 to 1 on nearly every shot. Norton gets up on unsteady legs and the ref waives it off.

    10.
    This content is protected
Bowe's outside game keeps Dempsey at bay with his jab. While Bowe seems to dictate the pace of the rounds it is Dempsey who is landing the harder shots. Bowe gets dragged into a inside slug fest where he emerges the winner. Bowe TKO5

    Round 2

    Winner of:

    A)
    This content is protected
: Bowe chases Ali around the ring aimlessly unable to get Ali to engage for a worthwhile exchange. Ali meanwhile piles up points. Bowe catches him in the 7th round with a well timed uppercut and Ali holds the remainder of the round. Muhammad recouperates and continues to fight on the outside. Ali UD15

    B)
    This content is protected
FOTY candidate. Holyfield starts out fast landing 4-5 punch combinations. Frazier is unable to get his left hook upstairs but scores well to the body. Each men are averaging over 80 punches a round. Holyfield is in total command up until the 10 round. Frazier sensing a tiring Holyfield picks up the pace using his right hand more. By the 14 round Holyfield is extremely fatigued. Frazier drops Evander in the 15th. Evander holds but is dropped again with a few seconds left and manages to stay upright. Frazier's championship round rally earns him a close win. Frazier SD 15

    C)
    This content is protected
Tyson starts out fast, Louis responds well. After three highly competitive rounds Mike lands a flush right hand that drops Joe in round 4. Round 5 resumes the action with Tyson being the aggressor and Louis on the backfoot countering. After the KD Louis is more cautious in letting his hands go and seems to be uncomfortable on the backfoot. Round 7 spells doom as Louis is caught by Mike's hook to the body upper cut upstairs combo while coming of a break. Tyson smelling blood finishes his man off ala Pinklon Thomas.

    D)
    This content is protected
: Tactical fight. Lewis presses foward the entire time. Holmes win the jab contest and narrowly wins the fight. Holmes UD 15 all three cards reading 143-142.

    E)
    This content is protected
Marciano tries to make a fight of it but is dropped in the 1st, 3rd and the stopped in the 4th round. Foreman KO4.

    Round 3

    Winner of:

    This content is protected
: Less rope a dope more dancing but similar result. Ali KO10.

    This content is protected
: Frazier starts out fast but is consistently timed well by Holmes's jab. Fraizer suffers a cut in round 8 and his offense suffers greatly. Although Holmes takes a liking to the body at no time in the fight is he seriously hurt. Holmes UD15.

    This content is protected
: Jeffries attempts to manhandle Tyson but has a difficult time trying to match him punch for punch. Tyson explodes with several combinations consistenly winning the exchanges. Jeffires unable to get any offense out constantly tries to muzzle Tyson's aggression by holding. It buys him a few rounds but Tyson's continued assault traps a beaten Jeffries and stops him. Tyson KO7

    Round 4

    Winner of:

    This content is protected
Tactical fight. Holmes starts off as the aggressor and although Ali is able to counter he is unable to put together a coherent combination without getting countered himself. Though his reflexes are superior Holmes timing seems to compensate pretty well. Ali starts to gain the advantage as he's turns the fight around by landing swift combinations off the ropes. By round 9 Holmes stops fighting as the aggressor and forces Ali to press the fight. Much to Ali's dismay he is unable to press the fight effectively and is seemingly reliant on crowd noise to influence the judges. Ali manages to sway back Holmes into pressing the fight but is unable to capitalize as Holmes walks away with a Razor thin Split Decision.
    Holmes SD 15.

    Final - Title Fight

    This content is protected
: Holmes starts off letting loose his left jab but Tyson's superior timing and handspeed finds his mark often. Rounds 3-5 all go to Holmes as his double jab offset Mike's offense forcing Mike to reset everytime he moves forward. Tyson turns southpaw in the 6th and lands a right hook to the body upper cut upstairs combo. Holmes is staggered and finally. Tyson follows up with more power punches. Holmes survives the round but is still shaken in the 7th where Tyson closes the show. Tyson TKO7.

    Winner = Mike Tyson
