    Statement Universum Box-Promotion: Chagaev vs. Valuev cancelled

    We cannot understand all this. Ruslan Chagaev is ready to box. His bloodwork has been stable for several years, including before this fight. The German Boxing Federation (BDB), the WBA and Prof. Dr. Walter Wagner, the doctor representing the Austrian Boxing Federation (FVA) which regulates cards of Sauerland Events, have all classified him as safe. They are trying to dodge Ruslan Chagaev here by hook or by crook. We will examine this situation very closely and take any steps necessary.




    Chagaev unable to fulfill local medical requirements

    The rematch between WBA heavyweight champion Nikolai Valuev and Ruslan Chagaev has been called off after Chagaev was unable to fulfill the Finnish boxing federation´s medical requirements. Finnish law prevents disclosure of any further private health medical information.
    "Unfortunately, we have no other chance but to call the whole show off," Sauerland Event General Manager Chris Meyer said. "Our top priority is Nikolai´s health and it could not be guaranteed." Added Valuev: "I would have loved to make this fight but given those circumstances it is not possible."
    The possibility of a replacement opponent was explored but with less than thirty hour's notice arrangements could not be completed with Kali Meehan or Lamon Brewster. The entire card has been cancelled.

    Couldn't Valuev get just a Hepatitis shot and fight?

    The whole card is off. This is totally farcical and a real dissapointment.

    Valouev trained so very hard for this fight, he weighed-in at his lowest weight ever at only 315.4lbs. If this were fake, Valouev would not be in such good shape.

    I'm not sure if there is a vaccination for Hep C if thats what it is...anyone know?

    Ruslan must have known this before hand of course.....too bad he screwed over alot o people because of this.

    Just looked it up, if its Hep C there is no Vaccination.

    Chagaev has hepatitis B. There is a vaccination that last a lifetime and very effective at prevention. A lot of people have known that Chagaev has had this for years.

    I hate to say it but it almost seems like a ploy to get a free belt from his promoter Sauerland. So, he could go back to fighting guys like Owen Beck as World Champion in front of naive fans.

    Why couldn't Meehan or Brewster step up and take the fight then to salvage the event? I am absolutely sure they would take the fight. They arent ever going to get another chance at a World Title and he is very beatable!! Who wouldnt take the fight?

    Totally agree, why cancel the event like that?, I'm sure many guys out there are available and willing to take it.

    Chagaev is promoted by Universum. Sauerland couldn't care less about them if it will make him money.

    This fight is cursed. They'll never get the rematch over with - which is probably a good thing for Valuev who was hardly even in their first fight.
