I'd comfortably pick Hopkin's, young or old against Valdez.

Really? I think if it would have been Valdez last saturday than Hopkins would be in hospital in a coma and Valdez would be in jail. Hopkins is a great fighter and looks still great at 43 but against a prime mw who would have been an atg if not for the greatest mw of all time, a guy who was one of the hardest punchers and who could box he would have fallen short. Valdez would have been faster than Hopkins and landed far more and harder shots than Pavlik. Pavlik is no Valdez yet, he may become as great even though he is less talented.

Valdez was a slick smooth agressive puncher with fast hands...he would make it competitive but lose a close one

Valdez at his best against the old Hopkins... Valdez wins far more comfortably than Calzaghe did.

Prime for Prime I'd take Hopkins say 10-5 decision. I think he'd do enough to keep Valdez off balance and steal a lot of rounds. Valdez is a big hitter but until I see Hopkins knocked out I'm going to assume it can't be done.
The Hopkins of last Saturday night. Although he was very sharp, Pavlik isn't in Valdez's class. I'd take Valdez to outhustle the 43 year old Hopkins in a close one.

Are people actually stupid enough to think a boxer can be put in jail for damaging/killing another boxer in an agreed boxing match or do most use it as a phrase?

Either way Hopkins wide UD after countering Valdez all night
