Yes. However, that did not change the quality of his opponents. He is still fighting bums. I do not know what are the intentions of Valero's camp. Are they trying to surpass Marciano's 49-0 record by fighting bums or are they just waiting for one mega-fight and thus, wants to peserve that unblemished zero loss column. Even AJ Banal's last opponent is ranked hgher than this one.

Imagine if Valero would be upset by this Shimada? I am sure that many would be declaring that Shimada is the undiscovered "gem" of fareast (sarcasm intended). What are Valero's camp thinking?

Just to preserve the unbeaten record. A proof that they are ALL HYPE. They should have capitalized on Valero's Texas license and fought a live opponent here in U.S. so that he'll get attention.

Padding up the guy's record by fighting bums.:yep

I doubt any bigger names are lining up to fight a guy who was suspended for most of his career, and can only fight in Texas now. Not exactly Atlantic City.

It's only a matter of time. I'm not defending this fight, but he just got licensed to fight in Texas. Goldenboy will put him against name opponents this year I believe. I read they were trying to put him on the undercard of Diaz-Casamayor in September since it's taking place in Houston, TX.

...and he did challenge Pacquiao after the Barrera-Pacquiao fight. If that counts for anything.
