You saw him spar with Alfredo Angulo? That's cool. Angulo is 3 divisions bigger at the moment. I think Valero can go up several more weight-classes eventually.
I wish we could see him fight JMM. Then we'd see some questions answered. I say, there's no question that he's a world class hitter, but from what I've seen of him, he's not much on skill and he looked a little slowish too. But the footage I've seen is on youtube and not high quality enough for me to trust it completely but the bottom line is we need to see him against a really good fighter. He's been up against some 'solid' guys but not someone that really carries a name. We've got to see that from him. I mean, he's beencalling out Pacquiao for quite a while but we haven't seen him beat a Katsidis type even.
Dude, not including his early career, the guy has never been KO'ed until he fought MP, and that TKO loss was more of a referee stoppage, not a true KO on the canvas. The guy's got pretty good whiskers.
It depends on the "glassity" of his opponents jaw.But I have seen most his fights appears to me that this kid is an accumulation puncher it remains to be seen how he can fight someone who won't fold easy and can actuall crack him back. IMO.
Guys, I've seen Valero live and he is not pitiful...this thread is garbage!! He is a legitimate badass. Unfortunately for us, he's not the sharpest knife in the drawer and needs to get his **** together before it's too late...he's no spring chicken. If anyone thinks that Paul Williams is the most avoided man in boxing, look at Edwin Valero...none of the top fighters at 135 would ever want to be in the ring opposite Valero. His straight left hand is lethal. i just hope he gets his opportunity sometime soon!!
He is "avoided" only because he is high risk-low reward. If he had all the legitimate title belts, everybody would want to fight him.
Exactly...he is high-risk, low reward...most avoided fighters are...if he had the WBC 135 lb title, my guess is that most would still not want to fight him...he's a southpaw who throws a heavy, straight punch. That's a problem for most fighters.
Everybody would fight him if Valero got a couple of major belts. If they're scared of fighting him, they're not real prizefighters. He's got a lot of weaknesses, he's not impossible to outbox.
I didn't say they would be scared of him, but the danger of fighting a man like Valero is pretty obvious...you make him sound like Ricardo Mayorga... No he's not impossible to outbox, but if he cracks a fighter at 135 with one straight left, that fighter would be in trouble. He almost reminds me of a 135lb Corrie Sanders. I have to disagree about the idea of his belt being coveted by everyone in the division. it's hard to comeback from a devistating knock out loss...by looking at his KO ratio, there's a decent chance that it would happen via KO...it's a big risk for any fighter's management to consider, regardless of the reward.
So OK, not literally everyone. Everyone who wants to become great would want to fight Valero. I actually like to watch him. He's like a caveman with gloves and a boxing trainer would cover his student's eyes if a Valero fight is on TV, but he's fun. I just never liked the "Avoided one" label being used to describe certain boxers.
Dude did you see his last fight? You are overrating his power big time. He hit Velazquez with everything.
no, but I saw him win the WBC title in Austin...he looked awesome!! Seeing that his KO percentage is perfect, I think you are underestimating his power big time. How many lightweights have knocked out every opponent in 26 fights? only 7 of them making it past the 1st round? We're talking about a 135lb fighter, dude. Not Mike Tyson.
