Velazquez has not been stopped in 12 years other than the Pacquiao TKO and he fought with a very negative style by clinching Valero every chance he could which frustrated Edwin and prevented an earlier KO. Mosquera had never been stopped before in his career prior to Valero. Pitalua had not been stopped since almost 14yrs ago. All are very durable and tough opponents not guys with chins like Amir Khan or Litzau. When they put Valero up against Juan Diaz, Katsidis or JMM, guys with less than perfect chins, don't be surprised if they don't last more than 4 rounds.
He may but that won't be in the US. Politics is rearing its ugly head and unfortunately, Valero will be part of the collateral damage.
I think Demarco is going to be able to handle Valero's power......at least until the middle rounds. Demarco has a good chin, but tends to brawl when he gets cracked, which may be his downfall early in the fight. If he stays patient, I think he can drag Valero into the deep waters and put him to the test. This fight is going to be an absolute war with both guys taking lots of punishment imo.
fatdrunkenslob, that's utter rubbish about valero not ko'ing the guy 'till rnd 7 because of velazquez's clinching. valero crunched the guy multiple times, every rnd with bombs landing flush. and it still took 7 rnds to ko the bloke. no way someone like diaz or katsidis wouldn't go further than this guy did. not to mention that these two guys will return fire much more than any opponent valero has been in the ring with. and katsidis has more ko power than any opponent valero has faced.
I really like Katsidis and respect him as a fighter, but he should not ask for the fight against Valero...he will get knocked out!! if he got knocked out by an old Casamayor, he will get destroyed by Valero. Katsidis, like a lot of orthodox fighters, just don't see the straight left hand coming. Bad matchup for Katsidis.
Velazquez was in survival mode almost since the fight started. It also took Pac six rounds of punishment to take him out. Velazquez is technically limited but he is a good gatekeeper that has pretty good whiskers and typical Mexican resilience while facing adversity.
The Pac fight was four years ago it doesnt have anything to do with this fight not only that but Velazquez was coming of a loss against a nobody when he fought Valero. Velazquez was just another handpicked opponent for Valero to keep his 100% KO record and fool the idiots that dont look past that record.
My thoughts exactly. Valero, like Linares, will get starched soon. At least Valero has beaten a modicum of 'fair' challengers; the likes of Funeka and Katsidis won't be as forgiving, and these are hardly fighters that can be labelled as 'ATG's. Valero is totally open. How everyone keeps talking about his amazing speed and power I don't know, I honestly think they're watching another fighter. His punching form is abysmal. A lot of these Valero fans should go back a few years and watch Bazooka Limon; anything Valero can do, he did better, and see how far it got him:deal
Well, if someone is supposedly a 'two-weight World champ' (a ludicrous notion shown up by compatriot Linares recently) I'd expect them to be fighting someone better than a 'gatekeeper'. Watching Velasquez just made me realise; if this was Marquez Valero's career would be over by now. I thought this frequently throughout the fight, looking at moments that much more capable fighters would capitalise on. It won't be long; Valero will be shown up as the D level fighter he is soon, he doesn't even hit that hard.
deal:deal I think most of these guys dont even watch his fights, they just look at his 100% KO record and think hes something that he isnt.
No, they watch his fights, it's their lack of knowledge on Boxing history that leads them to believe he's something special. As I say, Bazooka Limon is Valerox2 and it's easy to see where his limitations were exposed.
Velazquez was a stay busy fight and a title defense in front of his home crowd. Nobody is claiming it was anything more or anything less. However, Velazquez is a common opponent of Pacquaio and this allows for comparisons. The result was identical, down to the same round of stoppage. Valero doesn't hit hard. . .?! Surely sir, you must be joking. Ask DLH, Antillon, or Jose Armando Santa Cruz. Santa Cruz specifically stated that, despite having sparred extensively with the likes of Casamayor and Margarito, among others, Valero was the hardest hitter he had ever experienced.
Except the Pacquiao fight happened four years ago when Velazquez was on a 5 fight win streak. Hadn't Velazquez just lost 2 of his last 3?
Valero is terribly flawed. The way he smothers his own attack by coming in to close made me laugh.Velazquez caught him with a left hook coming in in about the 3rd I believe that stopeed him in his tracks. DeMarco has serious chances of beating him.
