http://boxing.fanhouse.com/2010/02/18/edwin-valero-to-face-140-pound-lamont-peterson/ Lem Satterfield reports. Fight penciled in for June or July in either Florida, or Washington, D.C. according to the article. Both fighters are Top Rank guys, and I think it is a very interesting fight. Lamont is coming off the loss to Bradley, but he certainly didn't hurt himself in the loss - Bradley was just damn-near flawless in that fight. D.C. would be an interesting location since Peterson is from there, but there's still the issue of Valero getting licensed. I think this would be Valero's toughest fight to date, and will be a real measuring stick for where he actually stands in the 135-140 region - especially with a Bradley fight potentially on the horizon.
What a great fight , that old ******* has got his way again , however with this one you'd have to agree its a belter of a fight in prospect . At a first glance i like Peterson in this but you dont know do you , i thing one thing is for sure if Valero blasts him out its another option for Arum to avoid a Mayweather fight and keep making himself a lot of money !!!!!!!
It is a shame that Valero has to move up to get better paid fights, he is such a small guy, that sooner or later he is going to be caught out by this.
Arum said that Valero really struggled to make 135 for the DeMarco fight, so it seems he's moving up out of necessity. Regardless, this is an excellent fight. Peterson is a very good boxer and should provide the stiffest test of Valeros career. If he manages to win, he immediately puts himself in contention for any of the title holders.
Whilst I'm not a mad Arum hater, I think one needs to take what he says with a grain of salt at all times. How does someone so short and of what seems like a small build, struggle to make 135? I think they are going where the money is, and possibly a showdown with Pacman, depending on a few things.
Hmmm Peterson does have a style that does not suit Valero. If he beats Peterson then props to him and i might jump on the bandwagon.
good fight but would rather see Valero vs any of the top guys at lightweight. Juan Manuel Marquez Michael Katsidis Juan Diaz Joan Guzman Ali Funeka Kevin Mitchell Humberto Soto Anthony Peterson all good fights
Lamont has to fight better than he did against Bradley, that's for sure. I didn't like his gameplan in that fight at all.
Peterson would school that boy. As for Bradley, it would be even worse. Valero should stick with the lightweight Markus Beyer style. Defending his title against bum.
