Anyone else see the similarities between Valero and a young Manny? Both were pure sluggers. Both were/are willing to give one to take one. Both fight in the southpaw stance throwing big bombs in bunches with the rapier straight left. Valero carrys his hands low but this kid is going somewhere. The sheer fact that he punches so hard and was able to continue fighting so determined despite a very bad cut on his forehead impressed me alot. At first i thought he was the new version of Acelino Freitas who used to be a swinging wildman. But this kid has alot of solid qualities, a good chin, feinting to the body, some headmovement, tenacity, decent ring generalship all backed up by his huge punching power. Im on board.

Agreed. The problem is that Valero is already 28. Pac, when he was fighting like that, was only 22-23 or so, and was still able to be shaped into the fighter he is today. I don't know if that's the case with Valero...

    Time will tell.

Yea...the Showtime crew hit the nail on the head with that. Valero looks like a young Manny.....just a lot slower with more power. The kid has a lot of potential and despite what he shows in actual fights the kid has got a solid pro game. He just relies too much on his power....letting his defense fall where he is getting smaked by couter hooks and jabs over his low guard. He has a mentality where he goes gun crazy due to his abunance of power, but a soild boxer who isn't scared of his power will capitolize on his mistakes if he doens't find a way to adjust. In sparring he shows very solid "D"....but come fight night we see an aggressive slugger with limited Defense.

He doesnt have as fast hands nor the rapid fire combinations, he is however a better counterpuncher and better defensively than a young pac.

He's got a better trainer who was able to improve the dynamics of PAC and enhance the qualities or natrual gifts that were in abundance. Valero has the tools but he isn't getting the most out of his gifts. Which is pretty much power. If he had a more solid skill set that had him fight a bit more composed and intelligent he could be on PAC's level in the future. But right now he gets hit far too often and his defesnive holes are definitley there to be taken advantage of. Good for Ed is that he shows he's got a good chin.

Manny Pacquiao had better legs and much faster hand speed. Valero hits hard as hell though.

Pacquiao improved more than any boxer I've ever seen. Valero shouldn't ever get past being similar to a young Pacquiao.

Even though hes a two weight champ he still has a lot of improvement, remember, his first 18 fights ended in the 1st round and 22 of his 27 fights have been over in the 3rd round or less so as far as experience goes hes still got a fair way to go,

I would like to see him start to face the likes of Guzman, Funeka, Soto to see him in with that calibre of fighter or even Malignaggi at 140, just to test the waters and see if he holds any future up there, its an excting time though to see how far he can go,

He is reminicent of a younger Pacquiao but there was always going to be comparisons made as their respective styles are similar, but i think he likes to throw every shot with intent to hurt, he did however, show restaint against DeMarco and that was good to see, and it will be intersting how he conducts himself against a higher calibre of opponent wether or not he goes and looks for a big statement or does what he did with DeMarco and gradually breaks them down.

Cant wait to see who he fights next though im starting to become a big fan of his as im sure the majority on ESB are now
