we'll see how he performs on april 4th. i'm aching to watch these lightweight tournaments, esp. valero pitalua. Pitalua is a live opponent, and he's very dangerous. if valero gets careless and does not hold his hands up, he's in for the taking. i was impressed by his power against sta cruz.

Well Erik is clearly holding back and waiting to counterpunch there. Looks like that was what he was working on in that vid. Although he does seem a bit slow to pull the trigger in there. Seems to me like that sparring session probably took place earlier in training camp before Morales was fully sharp.

Interesting vid though, it's the one and only time I've actually seen Morales spar.

This thread has gone to **** because of the Pac vs Valero discussion but the truth is that apart from that its an interesting topic. Valero did indeed help Morales prepare for Pacquiao and i don't think there's anyone better than Valero to help prepare for Pac save maybe Zab Judah but even then I think Valero is closer in style. Also Valero saying that he was troubling ODLH in sparring in hindsight should have been a clear indicator to everyone that Pac would completely demolish Oscar. Anyone who can't handle Valero is sparring will likely get KTFO against Pacquiao.

Also, sparring is important. Its different from a fight but its also similar. Valero has sparred with Urbano Antillon, Jose Armando Santa-Cruz, and Erik Morales and held his own or even better. I actually think that Morales showed he was better than Valero in that sparring session but Valero did pretty well himself. However what I saw for the most part is that Morales could dip down and fire the overhand right down the middle and it would land on Valero every single time. The Morales that defeated Pacquiao would have knocked Valero out.

final comment, you don't need to be as good as Pac to be a good fighter. Valero is a good fighter. And yes sparring sessions can prove that.

Pituala doesn't really stand a chance.

I have to disagree on your last statement mate.

Valero is as crude as they come, and he didn't show any good boxing skills in all of his actual fights to make me believe he has it, and at this point in his career, it would be difficult to think he would learn it. Apart from his vaunted power and his long hair, there is nothing else to talk about him.

Someone with experience like Pituala who CAN also punch will be a good test on how good Valero really is.

Right now, I am not sold on this head hunter. The evidences of his potential are so weak I think eventually, he would be another Edison Miranda.

I'd love to see Valero fight live in Las Vegas. I don't think the NAC won't sanction him due to past injuries.

More than a few people have said Valero has had to be told to hold back in sparring. Some fighters like Urbano Antillon were only allowed to spar 3 rounds with Valero because they were taking too much punishment.

He'll be fighting in Vegas in the near future. He should never have been suspended in the first place. Unfortunately one state made a bad decision and it shut him out of fighting in the states for quite some time until now.
