When the news broke out that Valero had been arrested for the murder of his wife, many of us were in disbelief. After it began to settle on us, some of us began to lash out our anger at the former boxing knock out artist. It seemed to some of us that it was only fitting that he took his on life. Now that Valero has comitted suicide, it is a good time for us to reflect back on what actually transpired. Lets not get caught up in focusing on Valero but on why he did what he did. Addiction to drugs and alchohol is not a unique problem isolated to this tragedy. Many of us, boxing stars or not, deal with this in our own lives through our own addiction or the addiction of our loved ones. Even if we don't, we risk falling in the pithole that Valero fell in. Some of us may say, that will never happen to me. I'm sure Valero said the same thing. I'm here not to defend Valero, but to state that this tragedy should be a wake up call to all of us. Life is too precious to waste and if you or someone you know is in need of help due to addiction, the time to help is now before it is too late.

    Great post

Its why I hate drugs so much. It ruined several of my childhood friend's lives and my highschool ex has now become a vice to it (if shes not dead already).

The sad part is that I have not seen too much been written about how the drugs and alcohol broke down Valero. Valero was not a murderer. What he did, he regretted and when he knew he couldn't take it back, he decided to take the easy way out. I know that there are a lot of angry people out there calling Valero a scumbag but they are missing the point. When you are caught up in this lifestyle, your life spirals out of control to a point where you are not only a liability to yourself but also to those around you. It can happen to anyone of us.

If Valero wasn't a murderer, who is? wtf. A lot of us have temptations and downfalls, just bcuz we knew him as a great ko fighter, he's not different from all the other selfish sociopaths out there.

Drugs and alcohol don't turn you into a killer. Valero had to have had psychological issues already.

There's no excuse for what he did, period. This guy beat his wife up, sent her to the hospital, and now just recently stabbed her to death. I have no sympathy for this dude. Murder is inexcusable, plain and simple, end of story.

Quit blaming his accident, drugs, alcohol, his country, his family etc and have some fcking accountability for once. He was a grown ass man. If he was in America, I doubt he would have a license to fight anyway. My initial opinion when I saw a picture of him was that dude looks like a crazy animal, even for a fighter. When I saw his wife ringside on Hbo in feb, she looked sweet, now that's the tragedy. Some fighters kill themselves, Valero took her out with him. Pos.

Yes, I agree. Valero is accountable for his actions.

The point is that alchohol and drugs were involved.

Alchohol and drugs fuel destructive behavior.

This we should learn from this tragedy.

You're all so quick to judge Valero. How much do you all actually know about what happened? Based on what the media has released, there is nowhere near enough ground to say that Valero murdered his wife and took the easy way out. Any number of things could have happened. You shouldn't be so judgmental. Let the smoke clear, then place your accusations.

    say no to drugs.

If you have kids, inculcate in them early to avoid drugs and alcohol like a plague.

Most countries should make laws that punish both users and pushers.

There is definitely something very different about the mind of a killer compared to an ordinary person. Drugs and alcohol were the fuel to his fire and may have been a big factor. However the real sickness lies in our society, there are ways of avoiding this type of behavior and somewhere along they way, Valero COULD have been stopped, but we all blindly ignore the obvious signs (at least did not care nearly enough or act upon those signs and only saw what he could or could have not been in the sport of boxing

I wouldn't be surprised if there is more to the story that the media has not revealed. I don't know, the whole **** just seems totally night and day. He along with his wife and kids seemed completely happy after he defeated DeMarco which was not too long ago. Then we hear about him potentially landing a mega fight with Manny Pacquiao. You'd think Valero would be in cloud nine, completely stoked about his future at this point. But all of a sudden he murders his wife and subsequently hangs himself. Crazy.

I drink and smoke weed all the time. Doesn't mean I'm gonna murder a wife or beat the sh*t out of my sisters and mom.

Wait, I should repent to God so he can forgive me of my sins!!
