I'd say so- I haven't even seen the guy fight, yet I hear that he's a big knockout artists (with what, a 100% ratio, yeah, we can call him a KO artist!).
I disagree with you. If he is blowing out these guys then what is fighting a dozen more tomatoe cans going to do for him? We will see how his step-up in competition goes this saturday. Jiminez is by no means an easy opponent, especially for your 10th pro fight
His beating Valero now is not unreasonable. Valero isn't that good from one. And for extremely talented fighter, this is not unprecedented. Whitaker beat Roger Mayweather in his 12 fight and fought (and should have gotten the decision) Ramirez in his 16th fight.
i reserve judgement on gamboa until he fights a B-level opponent first. sure, he had a great amateur career but certainly pro and amateur boxing are two very different animals. boxing history is replete w/ great amateur boxers not being able to make the transition to a great pro career. just take the recent example of rocky juarez and many of his mates in that great american olympic boxing team and you'll see why i'm still skeptical about this gamboa fellow.
Problem is we dont know how good Valero is! He's been knocking out Japanese waiters for years now, but what happens if he steps up and fights a decent opponent and then does the same? He's an unkown quantity. Gamboa is a great talent but at 9-0, leave him be for a while. Interesting to see how both careers will pan out when things get more competitve for each of them though
Wasn't Juarez on our 2000 squad? That wasn't exactly the strongest team we ever put out. But yes, you're right; amateur success doesn't necessarily translate to pro success, although it can be a good indicator if they show skills as an amateur that translate well to the pros.
His 12 rounder that got him the belt, from a Venuzualan I think, was a brilliant fight that deserved to be broadcast a lot more widely than it was.
Valero by KO mid rounds ... if Valero take him deep then its possible that he has a late rounds stoppage.
I think you're assuming Valero actually has the skills and talent to take Gamboa deep; when, if you ask me, it would be Gamboa taking Valero deep.
He does have talent ... the skill set isn't quite there but he has the power to change the fight at any time ... I don't think that Gamboa has been hit by the power that Valero possesses. It'll be interesting to see but I pick the seasoned vet in Valero who's a champion. Gamboa is the #5 contender for Valero's strap ...
Where does this fight take place? Texas ... Miami ... There could be a great card if you have a stellar undercard bout ...
Vincent Mosquera is not slouch either....especially since he was a proven world champion and a very technically solid fighter. Yes Valero beat up on a lot of C level fighters and to this point so has Gamboa. Jiminez??? C'mon now man...he's a soild foe but no one too spectacular...you are reaching to give him more credit than Darling deserves. His one and only decent win was a KO over Mike Achondo. Other than that he's really beaten up on D and C level guys.
